the best thing i have come across for build up is apple cider vinegar, just a splash in about 500 ml of water, rinse your hair through, wait a couple of minutes and wash as normal. it works great! for really dry unhappy hair, warm about a half a cup of olive oil in some hot water, make sure it doesn`t get hot just warm, massage it into you hair really well, wrap with glad wrap then an old towel, leave for 30 minutes and wash and condition as normal, it works really well, costs almost nothing and always leaves my hair glossy, smooth and manageable. Just be careful it can make the shower floor a bit slippery! 😉

if you have split ends, the most effective thing to do is get them cut off. use shampoos and conditioners that don`t have harsh chemicals. also, what you pay for is what you get. if you get what i mean. so salon brand shampoos will work 20 times better than those cheap supermarket shampoos, even if you have to pay a bit more. also try pantene 3 minute miracle, it makes your hair really soft and smooth 🙂

Wow, suddenly these treatments sound really complicated @_@ Thanks for the tips girls, will try out some of these products! Lately I`ve found my hair is becoming really dry, and I used to pride in having soft silky hair effortlessly.. 🙁 I think I was overwashing it, so I`m trying to `reset` it but… eh, it takes a while, it`s not pleasant and summer is fast approaching..!

I like the sound of the O&M Powerlift Mask Elmo

Sneaky – I haven`t tried it yet – will be test-driving it tonight! It`s a protein treatment – to make hair stronger – but it`s also moisturising (which protein treatments often aren`t) so I`m really excited to try it out! I`m guessing it would be suitable for all hair types? Not sure about oily hair though – you might want to skip conditioner if your hair is oily – mine is dry so I””ll be doing as it says to – shampoo/condition/mask.

Ooo Elmo I`ve heard of that brand it`s another on my list to try.. so you like it then? What does the mask do and what kind of hair is it suitable for? I love KM Born Again but would be very interested in a cheaper alternative.. it`s soooooo expensive even for a salon brand!

Another great brand is Original & Mineral (O&M)

    http://www.originalmineral.com/#

Free of all sorts of nasties etc. I just bought the power lift mask to help revitalise my hair (it`s a bit damaged at the moment) and eventually want to try the 7 day miracle mask, plus the hydrating shampoo and conditioner. They just look so good! And actually cheaper than MOP which I just bought.

You can buy O&M from adorebeauty, and also from salons as listed on the website.

Mel you are spot on about the quality of the sulphates.. Redken only starts to make my scalp itchy after about 4-5 months or so whereas supermarket shampoos make me itchy straight away.
You can get KM at a lot of salons, adorebeauty.com.au or a bit cheaper at myhaircare.com.au. Plus at myhaircare it`s free express post for orders over $50 so I get mine there. Great cust service too which is always nice!

butter treat is not new aryanny, it`s very good though.
perthbabe also if you want a cheap alternative can i suggest the fructis masks that come in the green pots? they most likely aren`t as good as salon brands but they do a pretty good job for their price (i think around $6). i think it is ok to leave in your conditioner overnight (i once read that tyra banks does this) but you might want to wear a shower cap lol. but maybe you should ask a hair expert… god knows i`m not one!
