Criticism of PM during QLD floods

Hi Beauties

There has been a lot of criticism in the media about our PM’s inability to connect to people during the QLD floods. Some commentators have said that she doesn’t exhibit much empathy particularly compared to Anna Bligh who has been complimented on her approach and behaviour during this horrible tragedy.

I am curious to know what your views are. Do you think our PM is generally aloof or appeared to be on this occasion? x

    jessticle,
i think we’d all rather see our tax $ go to fixing things here that need to be fixed too, the problem is that we pay huge taxes on everything and yet those important things such as education and health care still go by the way side. The money is so misappropriated in the first place which is why putting extra taxes and levy’s on is greed by government. We pay enough tax to fix the flood damage and fix our country.

Personally i call what they do ‘job security’. you eff it up once you have to fix it, you eff it up twice, you have to fix it, so you’ve always got something to do. lol.

i’m an idealist too, in a perfect world what you said would happen, i’m also a realist and know that it doesn’t happen which is why it’s so frustrating.

Am I the only one who doesn’t mind my tax money being spent?
I would rather it go to fixing the things that are wrong with this country than see it sit around in surplus waiting for a “rainy day” when all the important bits of our country are deteriorating! (e.g. health, education)

I also don’t understand why everyone is so critical of Labor’s spending during the GFC. It was really effective, Australia was one of the least affected countries.

Anyway, how this links in with what we’re all talking about is, I don’t mind paying a “flood tax” as long as it’s used instead of saved.

The more the government spends, the more debit we go in as they keep borrowing, therefore interest rates go up as well as cost of living ! And, our wages won’t get any higher because of it.

Do you even know where most of our money goes? Because I don’t really see it going into our roads, education and health!

Roads omg done get me started lol they have been doing so much down this area. i work late so when i come home is when there starting lol

Why can’t they borrow from the futures fund instead of a levy. The South Australian government put a ‘levy’ on our water bills for the “Save the Murray” but it doesn’t get used for this and there is NO sign of it ever being removed. Don’t be fooled by the Labor party and their so called “one off levies”

    Cheers
    BB

I hope everyone realizes too that once a levy goes on it will NEVER come off. I’m not sure exactly but i think it may have been good old Whitlam who put a levy on roads which is now called ‘road tax’. something to that effect.
we need to start banding together and holding these people responsible.

I agree. Given that the government was not given a mandate by the people of Australia as it is a minority government I think we need to lobby the independents and green member in the House of Representatives who hold the government to account. I firmly believe that a minority government should not be allowed to place a levy on us. I wonder if the constitution allows this?

As one journalist said last night, we need someone to die or decide to quite politics so that there is an opportunity to oust this government.

Unfortunately the 2 independents voted for labour so you can’t really get their vote for what they want anymore. Plus the Green member is allied with the labour party as the greens signed a contract with them last year.

We will just have to stick it out for another few more years.

I am just wondering how come we give a billion to Indonesia when something tragic happens and they don’t send some back when we have something tragic??

Jatz, some dic*head pollie back in the day signed our country away to the UN so guess what, we have an ‘obligation’ to give so much at certain times.
funny how the other countries (specifically USA) push all this crap on the rest of us DON”T sign these things. we’ve had some pretty gutless goverments and it’s getting worse.
