Can you get a doc’s certificate without appointment?

Hi beauties,
I have a “walkathon” today at school for charity, a 6k walk and I’ve been sick the last week with a bad cold. Im in year 12 so I thought id stay home today and study and rest because I’m still coughing an not really feeling up to a 6k walk…
Well my school is pretty strict about this stuff and if I miss it I will be in big trouble -_-
I’m not really sick enough to make an appointment with the doctor and don’t really have the money to be forking out so is it possible to just ring up, or go in or get a note from the pharmacist or something??
Thanks!

Its highly impossible to get the doctors certificate without the appointment….. make an appointment and let your doctor aware of the issue and collect the medical cert…..

A doctor has to legally examine you before handing out medical certificates though most GP’s are more then happy to write one if you are sick or need some time off for genuine reasons. Some pharmacies do certificates though not many do it.

I read an article that you can get sick certificates from the Pharmacy for like $10 and it’s legal too, just people aren’t aware of it. Ask at your local pharmacy and see if they do it (some do, some don’t)

Whenever I haven’t had the money and have needed one for uni I have just gone to the hospital and they have assessed me and given me one. I live in a relatively small town though so it might not be possible in a larger city. It also means having to wait in the waiting room for hours until a doctor is free.

yeah they will normally do it at the accident and emergency room even though its not an emergency because everyone has a right to see a doctor there but since its not really urgent you will probably have to wait for hours and hours! But if you go to a doctor and its only a very quick visit it doesnt’ cost too much as you can claim most of it back on medicare

If you’re still at school, shouldn’t your parents be paying for you to go to the doctor? As others have said, you can go to a doctor who bulk bills so you don’t have out of pocket expenses (although less and less doctors bulk bill these days). Even if they don’t bulk bill, you can go straight to medicare and get most of the money back on the spot.

Some pharmacists will provide a medical certificate if it is something simple like a cold. They don’t generally advertise this service, but will often do it for around $10-20.

Just go to any bulk billed doctor. Plenty of people go to the doctor just for a medical certificate, as long as you’re legitimately sick

You could always go to a medical centre, i’ve been to my local one a few time when it’s just been small problems that i don’t want to go to my normal doctor for. I signed up the first time i went and all they needed was my medicare card, i didn’t get bulk billed or anything.
You can always say you’re suffering from stress, or migraines, as these are two things that don’t include a physical examination, and they will give you a doctors certificate aswell.

No I shouldn’t think so. I’ve seen another GP and they didn’t say anything. Bulk-billed too.

I was thinking of going to a place that bulk billed but do the doctors get mad at you if you just want a certificate?
