Build me up, Buttercup!

So i’ve noticed this term being thrown around a bit and I’m wondering…. what does it actually mean to build up foundation? My colorstay generally isn’t enough when I apply it once all over my face with my sponge (only way I can get it on without it looking cakey), so I think I need to build it up, if only I knew what it meant exactly!

This one might be helpful too, she’s using layers of concealer and foundation to cover her acne and it’s unreal. You wouldn’t know she has acne when the makeup is done. I’ve been inspired to try a bit of what she does.

I use revlon colourstay, and if there are blemishes or redness that one layer wouldnt cover, i apply foundation on the areas first and let that set, the apply an all over layer. this means i dont have to put two full layers of foundation on my face which i think can feel too heavy. alternatively you could use a heavier foundation. JAM cosmetics was what i used as a dancer when on stage, it lasted through several routines worth of sweat and i only ever needed a tiny bit for full coverage,
    good luck 🙂

Funny that you found these videos of Tony, Mecca’s Artistic Director. I know Tony very well and he is extremely dedicated to beauty. He is a no nonsense guy and I have always found his advice very helpful. Admittedly the videos are done also to promote Mecca but he does know his stuff. x

I definitely need to build up my foundation…if I’m going out at night, I use the Prestige mineral powder foundation – I go over my whole face lightly then put a bit more on my cheeks where I have some blemishes.

I do the same during the day too – I use Rimmel Lastin Finish over my whole face then go over my cheeks with Maybelline Dream Matter Mousse:)

I think it refers to when you can apply one layer of foundation, allow that to settle for a few minutes and then apply another layer if you require extra coverage but won’t look cakey. You would think it would be more efficient (both time and money wise) to buy a heavier foundation??
