Bridal Makeup – Do’s & Don’ts?
…Searching for a bridal makeup artist. After one trial was told by friends that it looked terrible & could do better myself, which made me laugh as i’m not that savvy! Curious what advice, tips & tricks you may have that could help. Is the makeup look supposed to be natural, bold? Any moneysaving ideas? Am also considering emailing BH with this makeup dilemma as i’m out of my depth with this one 🙂 Any ideas would be greatly appreciated ♥

Sixties & StayC your right about the sunscreen & being reflective. I`ve been told that MAC have foundatons that are camera/flash safe as does Napoleon Perdis with their camera finish powder. I like the idea of checking out youtube for extra tips 🙂 StayC you are really sweet for offering to grow & change your hair colour to suit the dresses, You would have been a great bridesmaid, thoughtful and supportive. I`m trying to keep as far from bridezilla as possible & am trying to make the dresses style & colour suit the bridesmaids as I think they should feel comfortable in what they will be wearing. So much work!

I think anything that contains zinc might be light reflective, it`s really why a trial run is important unless you are using a pro who has done it all before, although I still go for a trial.
As a bridesmaid I offered to grow my hair longer and colour it back to it`s natural dark brown, my idea not forced on me by the bride. Our dressed were a deep, plummy pink and at the time I had red foils which seriously clashed.
A friend of mine had her bridesmaids in the same style of dress but different colours. It was a spring wedding and the four bridemaids had dresses in a soft apple green, soft lilac, soft, buttery yellow and a pretty blush pink. They looked great.

Ive heard from people not to use any foundation or moisturiser that has sunscreen in it if you are getting photos taken. Apparently it will reflect the flash on the camera and leave you looking very pale and washed out. There are some fantastic tutorials of youtube showing many different bridal looks. Worth a look. Goodluck!

Sorry for responding so late but i`d been offline, ill & busy for a while & hadn`t had a chance to catch up on the forums till now. Kylie85, MAC sounds like the best foundation from what everyone seems to tell me, i haven`t heard one bad story about it which is great. Love the idea of false lashes, maybe not full lashes for me but the ones that can applied individually to fill out certain areas is what i`m considering. Who knows i`ll probably change my mind a billion times, lol! StayC, taking dress colour into account is clever & something Ã`ve even been thinking of regarding bridesmaids as there dress colour, eye & hair colour will all play a part in their overall look too. Will have to check out the clinique quads you mention as they are great quality from my past experience & the colours you mention sound lovely. The idea of taking photos of makeup trials is great, I think it will help me to reflect back and gain a better idea of what look is working, where i need to alter shading etc. Thanks for all the great ideas, now i just have to start getting seriously organised time goes soooo fast 🙂 I`m working hard at keeping my skin healthy & fresh so that whatever makeup brands & style I decide on have a good base to work off, If only i could stay as motivated to keep getting fit!

False lashes are a great idea as they emphasise the eyes without being obvious. I think contouring is really important especially in photos so have a trial run and get someone to take pictures of you and see how it looks, that way you`ll know if something needs to be darker or lighter.
Also take into account the colour of your dress. My friend ended up with what she calls a fairy dress and is was a very light blush shade not the cream or ivory I expected so I had to change my makeup strategy. I used Clinique shadows and had bought the Spicy quad which would normally be perfect for her but not with a very light pink dress, ended up using a soft pink as the base colour on the eyes and the main shadow was Foxy by Clinique, it`s a smokey greyish brown.

Thanks for all these links & suggestions! Audreysmakeup some great pics there shame im in nsw! KNJ cheers for the link & piccies too, the makeup looks really pretty, natural and highlighted their beauty, very nice 🙂
Kylie85, how you described your makeup style for the day sounds similar to what i`m thinking, I want wow without dragqueen looks, so it pops but is still feminine and natural. Is that your wedding piccie as your avatar? The dress looks gorgeous! Can i ask what brand your makeup artist used for your foundation? I`m still on the search for the right foundation.
Prittykitty, totally agree that i want my foundation to match my skin tone & not be OTT, definitely agree about needing a good photographer & want my makeup to reflect my personality so i feel comfortable & confident for the day.
Msleo20, i like the idea of highlighter on the cheek bones definitely & a colour thats natural but will highlight my eyes, It`s great that you already have it all planned out, I like a gal who knows what she wants!
Sooo many things to take into account, the links & piccies are all great help with what looks seem to work. -

personally i think a nice matte face with highlighter where you may want it (ie. on top of the cheekbones). I don`t think you should go too dark on your eyes… maybe a nice plum or toffee shade for your eyes? bit of blush or bronzer and whatever lipgloss suits you..
as you can see i have my whole wedding day planned and i`m only 19 and single lol. -

lots of brides i`ve seen have foundation that is too dark on. i think it`s something to do with photography. all i can say is that if you get a decent photographer you will look good and don`t let them near you with anything not your shade coz it looks yuck. personally i`d rather have people remember me as the beautiful bride in their heads, which are usually more flattering than photos anyway!

Hey Goddessmagick i just got married in April. My make-up artist was awsome.
My make-up was natural but gave me that flawless look and the lasting coverage and thats what you need because it is one long day! She also focused on my eyes which were soft brown golden colours, my bridesmaids had gold through their dresses stuck with a clour theme.
At the end of the day its all about you and what you want, have a play around at the trial with the makeup artist.
What i thought was i dont want to look like a drag queen but i want my makeup to be wow if ya know what i mean.
GOODLUCK !!! If you are in Perth check this out http://www.thianasperry.com/
