Boarding for your loving pets

Hi girls,

just wanted to share this bit of information with you just in case you’re going travelling and not sure where to take your pets.

I absolutely hate kennels and found two places that will find foster families for your pet (they get to stay in the home of the person taking care of them). They match up your pets needs/personality with a couple or a family that’s suitable. We’ve used Don’t Fret Pets and absolutely loved the couple that our dogs were place with. We would have used Don’t Fret Pets again for this next trip but the couple have moved overseas and they can’t find a family that can take two dogs so I’m going with another company called Topdogs (same concept). So here are the links to both sites if you’re interested http://dontfretpet.com.au/ and http://sydney.topdogminders.com/Display.aspx?tabid=2614 if neither of those work for you then you can also have them stay at a Pet Resort. We had Chuck and Harley (pic of thumbnail) stay there last year but the drive for them was too long and for us http://www.petresortsaustralia.com.au/happy-holiday/a-typical-day

Thanks Catlover. It helps to know someone else understands the misery one goes through losing a beloved pet. Sometimes I think I hear Roxy calling me – he was a very vocal cat. And it was heartbreaking losing him so suddenly. I wish he was still with us, particularly for Misha as Misha needs the company. He has me of course but there was a beautiful bond between the two.

Will always keep ML in mind for the future, but at this stage I don’t want another cat as it is not the right time. xx

Hey catlover, what a small world. You may have met my little one, Misha who was there from mid November for a few weeks. I was so pleased that the philosophy is to have 2 animals in a room as Misha was used to sleeping, eating and playing with our cat for 12 years who tragically died in April last year from a massive heart attack. We were both bereft and still miss him terribly.

Say hi to all at Mornington Lodge for me please. xo

My worst nightmare before my recent surgery was finding a place for my gorgeous pooch. He is 14, has diabetes (requires injections twice a day), blind, has heart murmur (controlled by medication) and I was desperate to find the best place for him. If I couldn’t find a place I was going to postpone the surgery!

The main concern was finding someone who was experienced in dealing with geriatric dogs and could administer medication and the injections. Thanks to my wonderful hairdresser who is as crazy about his pets as I am, I found Mornington Lodge (in Victoria) and I could not have asked for a better place. My dog had a playmate in his room (dog beds, toys, airconditioning – the works) and they slept together on the bed like an old married couple! The geriatric dogs are housed in the ‘Fluffy’ house which is near the kitchen so someone can keep an eye on the geriatric dogs.

There is 24 hour care and one staff member looked after my dog the entire time. They do pick up and delivery (extra cost) but I needed that as I could not drive for several weeks after surgery. I was so content and did not worry at all while I was in hospital.

If you are based in Victoria and need a great ‘hotel’ for your cat or dog, I could not recommend Mornington Lodge highly enough. (This is starting to sound like an ad!). x

I think we looked at Terrigal, but they couldn’t care for our dog, she is old!!!

I know Jessie, its hard when dropping a pet off at the kennel or resort cause you know they’re not getting 24hr care. I just got off the phone with the girl from top dog and she asked even more questions about Chuck and Harley which shows me that they really, really care about getting them into the right family/couple. Can’t wait to meet and interview the families in the coming weeks!

My puppy (well he is two, but he’ll always be a puppy to me!) recently had a stay at a pet resort and despite having all his innoculations done he got a rather bad case of kennel cough. That was a really hard week, not much sleep for either of us. The place was clean, reputable and yet somehow something got to him. Apparently the innoculations don’t cover all strains of the cough.

Anyway, that is basically a really long winded way of saying that this is something I’d consider using as an alternative to the resorts in the future! Thanks for the post. 🙂
