Blood test- Normal?

Hey 🙂 Just thought i’d check and see if anyone may know whether having a bruise the size of a 20c piece and a bump from a blood test is normal? Its also sore to touch and i haven’t had this with any other blood tests even when i had extremely low iron..

Thank you all for the advice 🙂 I waited a bit longer and the bump went away 🙂 it is still bruised but not sore anymore 🙂 I will make sure I let them no next time though( and ask them to use the butterfly needle) as my arm hurt for days after and was quite swollen, hopefully i won’t need many more anytime to soon though 🙂 xx
Princess fiona that sounds sore as.. hopefully you won’t need any tests or injections anytime soon either 🙂

A good nurse should not bruise you from a blood test or giving blood. People with bad veins (hard to find) do tend to get bruised more. That would be mainly older people or those with some sort of longterm illness. Also, if someone is taking a blood thinner like Warfarin they will bruise and bleed easily even from bumps.

ELMORULES that is a really great idea.

PRINCESS FIONA I cant believe that happened to you. You poor thing. Hospitals are nasty places, I know I work in one lol.

I’d like to know how it is now Livi? It should of gone down by now.

I use the small needles and am really careful as I hate hurting people or leaving bruises, sometimes peoples veins are just so fine and fragile the needle either goes through a small peripheral one while trying to find a good vein or the vein you are using collapses.
Everyone who takes your blood in hospital has been trained.
Next time say to the person taking your blood that you bruise very easily and please could they be really careful as it left your arm a mess.

they might have not put the needle in right and it caused a little bit of bleeding (my partner donates blood alot) if you want to you can call and inform them it happened.. a friend of mine donated blood and she had a bruise that was probably 4 inches long and 3 wide

I always bruise when I have blood tests taken….Ive asked why, and they really have no answer, and it doesnt matter how careful they are when they do it, it always happens. When I had a shoulder operation, and had the drop in my hand, the top of my hand was almost completely blue, and then turning ugly yellow afterwards, – it took almost 2 weeks to clear up!

Livi92 , Ask them to use the butterfly needle ? it’s only small with a tube , it leaves no bruises .

I would give it a day or two and see. When I take blood from people sometimes it bruises for ages, it just depends.
Give it a day and see how it goes.If you are concerned call them and ask them

It can also depend on the method of the person giving the needle, as well as the point of injection. If you are worried, I also think you should make an enquiry.

Not sure Livi, I’d ring whoever did the test and find out. I know bruising can be quite common and that some people are a lot better at taking blood than others but don’t know about the bump. Could be more to do with hormone levels and stuff in your blood at the moment but if you’re worried definitley give them a ring.
