Bad for your skin?

I’m still in highschool and I have a daily skincare routine consisting of cleansing, moisturising, eye cream, spot treatment (if needed) and lip balm. 2-3 times a week I exfoliate, facial and mask. Can someone please inform me if this is bad for my skin, cause I’ve heard that it will age your skin earlier (especially using and eye cream) if you do this…you know, take care of your skin too much? Thanks, I really appreciate it. 🙂

When I had my first ever skin consultation I was told by my therapist, I was contributing to y fragile skin and causing it to become red and more sensitised, because I was exfoliating too much. She steered me away from using physical scrubs all together and for the last few years I have only been using chemical exfoliations, which do the same job, minus anything abrasive to upset my skin. It was the best lesson in skin care I have ever learned as I use to think that scrubbing the crap out of my face was a good thing, lol. So yes as cat lover mentioned “less is more ” is a good thing to always remember 🙂

I read an article on primped about how many times to exfoliate and it looks as though I’ve been doing it too often.

Good one, BM! Glad that my views about exfoliation have been reinforced. Makes me feel more confident about this topic. Thanks! x

Thanks for posting that because I researched after you posted it and that’s what I found. I think I was doing it too much and now I’m going to stop! Well not totally stop but once a week is enough.

I’m in high school and I practically do the same thing as you, and I take really good care of my skin because i heard that it will benefit me when I am older, so I wouldn’t stop if i were you!

I’m definitely a fan of ‘less is more’ when it comes to skincare. I think the less we fiddle with our skin the better (within reason). I agree that sun protection is a must, including wearing hats in the summer! Also, as far as exfoliation goes, I would advise caution, especially when it comes to harsh scrubs as I believe they can lead to broken capillaries in later years.

I used a skin care routine through highschool. I think the most important things are making sure your skin in clean and using a sunscreen suited to your skin. The thing mentioned about over exfoliating your skin is so true. Over-irritating your skin definitely adds to acne

    Your routine sounds good.
I’ve been exfoliating too much lately, probably every second day because I have all these nice new products I’ve been trying out. Well it’s done no good to my skin so I am cutting it back to once a week! I never thought exfoliating could be bad.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear sunscreen to expose skin such as face, neck as these will age first and use SPF 30+ with Broad Spectrum for UVA/UVB. This will shield you from the sun rays (normal ones) and the ageing rays (the ones that’ll cause you to age skin quickly) Oh yeah and I don’t think 15+ sunscreen will protect you enough plus use it even when it’s a cold miserable day ‘cos the sun rays will still exist. If your going on a long trip in the car wear sunscreen too as car windows will not act as a barrier to the sun!
