Alternate to foundation (for hot days)

I am looking for an alternate for foundation on hot days (its been hot in Melbourne the last few days).

Obviously tinted moisterisers would be an option but I was thinking mineral make up.

I don’t know anything about mineral make up but I was thinking what is everyone’s thoughts on it? Would it be an alternative? Do you suggest any brands? How is the coverage?

Thank sladies

I recently bought Invisible Zinc UV Silk Shield SPF 30+.

It’s a sunscreen/foundation on a stick. Staying power is good – it didn’t budge at all in hot/humid weather and coverage is can be light or heavy. I lightly swipe the stick all over the face then lightly pat/rub to blend.

The texture is quite thick and for people with dry skin, a primer or moisturiser is a must, otherwise you will get a cakey finish.

Pros: great UV protection, pretty packaging, buildable coverage, fair price, long-lasting, zinc protection.
Cons: can look cakey if not applied properly, limited shades.

Yet that is the one I was talking about, it sounds ideal for my oily skin 🙂

I would love to get away with just bronzer but as I have gotten older there are too many visible flaws that just need evening out, that is where a light tint comes in handy, just to even the complexion, ahh it would be bliss to go bare faced during summer but unless I am staying home indoors that is just not an option, haha 😉

I use my MAC MSF Natural in place of my foundation when I want something lighter, or at the moment I’m even just dusting a bit of bronzer on, really brightens your skin up a bit without being heavy 🙂

Its a really tough one I have so much trouble getting any foundation even mineral to stay put on my face during the hot summer months. I do live in a really humid part of Australia though, so sometimes you are flat out getting the foundation on your face before it sweats off. The best thing I have found to stay put is Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear, it is a tinted moisturiser but more like a zinc cream texture, it is quite thick, and provides ultimate sun protection, I love zinc for my SPF, but anyway the best thing is it stays put all day even on the hottest days, they do have a new foundation out as well which I really want to try and see if it is any lighter, I have heard it is. I thought this was my holy grail for summer months until someone recently mentioned it still contains heaps of nasties, that ticked me off coz they don’t want to show you the ingredients on their website and like many other brands they claim to be natural, but don’t really know what else to do as still I can’t find anything else that seems to work, so it will have to do until something better comes along!!

Definitely mineral makeup. I haven’t tried the Aussie minerals but if Beauty Bee recommends it I am sure it’s good. My favourite is Lucy Minerals from the US, you can order straight from her website. 🙂

I.D BareMinerals is probably the best brand for mineral makeup. I’ve had both the original and matte formulas (and reviewed them), but would go for the original one as it has better coverage. You only need the tiniest amount, and you can also use it as concealer. It doesn’t look gross like other foundations if you get hot and sweat a bit. The only thing is some ingredient in it makes my skin slightly itchy, but I think most people don’t have that problem.

The bismuth in ID Bareminerals is what would make you itchy.

I never knew that. It’s very annoying anyway as I so love those products.

    Hi Prissy Girl

I love mineral foundation especially when it is hot. A good quality foundation that contains no filler such as talc or bismuth (makes a lot of people itchy) is ideal. The coverage level is up to you, but build thin layers to the desired coverage rather than one thick layer. It will take a couple of goes to get it right. The other advantage is that mineral makeup has a built in SPF.

There is a very large thread on mineral makeup you might like to check out. http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/forums/9/topics/615?page=58

Aussie mineral makeup is a good brand containing no chemicals, nasties or fillers . It is on BH if you would like to check that out as well. The other advantage of mineral makeup is that you can swim or exercise in it and you only have to pat it dry (don’t rub).

    Cheers
    BB
