A trip to the Dermatologist

Hey girls,
I am going to a dermatologist on the 16th of sept..
As i have a tiny bit of acne, its not that bad, but i get breakouts in mt tzone so im guessing its a hormone imbalance…
Any thoughts anyone? Has any one been? They dont just recommend drugs do they?
cheers

In my experience dermatologists want to hand out either antibiotics and/or a topical treatment. I haven`t ever foudn them all that helpful myself.

If you have a look at the thread titled `my skin assessment` – you`ll see which choice I ended up going with, after battling breakouts for many years.

Hey Fashion i`ll give you some advice for your skin from my experience and from what i have learnt.
I find using a gentle face cleanser suitable for your skin type will not strip the oil your skin produces. A lot of people think that using products such as Clearasil, Clean and clear, proactiv etc..will work (you see these products advertised a lot) those products strip out the oils from your skin and this will make your skin dry and produce more oil – which can cause more acne. But every skin is different and it may or may not work but i would be on the safe side and use gentle products.
I assume you have combination/acne prone or oil/acne prone, my skin is a combination i get oily on my tzone and i get acne here and there (hormones!). So a gentle face cleanser is definitely a good choice, another important thing is to moisturise no matter how oily your skin is. Lots of water with a good diet and moisturising will help your skin.
I usually use a spot treatment for my acne, i use Benzac AC 2.5% which helps although i would not suggest to use it if you have sensitive skin. If you choose to use this product always start with 2.5%.
I think i have covered the basics if you have any questions you are very welcome to ask any of use ladies or search in posts.

Hi chiara, did you react to anything with a product or do you have severe acne? If your in your teenage years it is mostly likely your hormones , (unless something severe happened to your skin) it is completely normal i wouldn`t really think it is necessary to see a dermatologist although it would be a good idea to discuss what products would be good for your skin type if your not sure.

I went to a dermatologist when I had a reaction to a cream I was using for a burn on my arm… the guy I went to in the city was very good, very helpful, definitely didn`t just prescribe things – he had a lot to recommend about good practices for your skin, the kind of chemicals that I might have been reacting to, how to find out and recognise what chemicals are in products, etc… you`ve actually made me think, I believe I`ve been getting hormone-related acne a bit lately as well… hmm maybe I might pay a trip to the dermatologist again actually! Hope this info helps a bit.
