have any of you gals tried the 48 hour detox seen on tv? It claims to make you drop 2 dress sizes in just two days. I up for a bit of weight loss and i was wondering if it would work. What about you gals?

I`d thought about trying this but now it just sounds like a silly thing to do. Thanks for the help girls!

My (soon to be) mother in law tried it and it did nothing for her! Although she claims to have noticed that her clothes felt a little looser on her it wasn`t substantial enough that we would say that she lost a dress size! Personally I will do a detox just before summer for about a weekend but its more just to cleanse my system; for that whole weekend (usually from a Friday to Monday) I will eat nothing but raw fruit and vegetables and drink only water. Last year I added green tea to the mix. I find it does wonders for my skin and I feel great after (I do feel a little sluggish the morning of though!).

I just tried it on the weekend. To cut a long story short – it doesn`t work.

It`s pretty much a 1L bottle of juice (tastes and looks a bit like vege juice) and mix it with 1L of water and drink 4 cups a day with no food and extra 2L of water. I actually gave in on Sunday night and had to eat because I`d been cranky since Sat night and my partner couldn`t handle it anymore so he forced me to have dinner :D. I did lose weight but I`ve been ravenous the last few days from no-doubt low blood sugar. I wouldn`t call it a detox – starvation is a better description.

You`d be better off just doing what Beauty Obsession recommended – cut out alcohol, caffeine, smoking and processed foods for a week or 2 and focus on eating as many grains, fruit and veges as possible. I do that once a while when I feel I`ve over-indulged a bit too much and it works a treat.

I do believe in detoxing- if you do it in moderation, and if you are doing it to set up a healthy diet that is long term.

But losing 2 dress sizes in 2 days is ridiculous and is not good for your internal organs especially liver and kidneys.

I don`t believe in detoxing. The best thing you can do for your body is eat a well balanced diet which includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, limit your alcohol and coffee intake and not smoke. If you loss weight too rapidly your body will go into shock and put it all and if not more back on.

This has nothing to do with it, but does anyone else find it funny that they offer a 21 day free trial of the 48 hour rapid detox? hehehe

Yeah there seems to be lots of us who are anti-detox, there are a few threads about in health and body care I think. Anything worthwhile takes time and effort.

On another note, ELAINNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEE, where`ve you been? How is everything?

    Yup.

The word detox should be changed to PROtox.

There`s a rule of thumb that says that if you lose weight faster than about 1kg per week, the body doesn`t have time to adjust to the change and you will put it all back on again (and usually more) as soon as you relax your dieting.

It can actually be beneficial to eat a little extra if you`re losing weight too fast so that the body can adapt gradually.
