Mummy budget!

Hi Beauties,
It’s been so long since I posted something but mainly because I forgot how! Thank goodness someone posted instructions 🙂

I am just on 9 months pregnant and seem to have run out of almost every cosmetic at the same time, or am hitting serious pan :s and have realized that I can no longer justify spending ridiculous amounts at the beauty counters at myer, David jones or even on strawberrynet! So I’m asking all you thrifty beauties for assistance!!!

What’s a good makeup brand that won’t break the bank? I love full coverage foundations for nights out (these will be few and far between soon!) mineral foundations for day wear and tinted moisturizers for the gym! I also need powders and a good primer so I figured I would start from scratch and buy new everything as a welcome to motherhood present for myself 🙂

Ok any feedback given will be greatly appreciated!
Xo

Hi all thanks so much for your help! Just wondering does anyone know if revlon makes a tinted moisturizer?

Also has anyone tried nude by nature and if so what did you think?

I have only tried the Nude by Nature mineral powder and finishing veil. Not that big a fan of the powder because it only comes in 3 shades (light was too light, medium was too dark) and I found that it applied very streaky/blotchy.

I have always been a fan of Rimmel for foundation and mascara.
My absolute favourite eyeshadows are handmade loose shadows that I have bought from sellers on Etsy (one now has their own website). For the most part you don’t pay anymore thatn $6 per shadow (including conversion to AUD) and shipping is normally only about $6 too. All of the shadows that I have purchased have had pretty amazing colour pay off without having to pack heaps of shadow on. My favourites on http://www.etsy.com are Providence and Grace, Vandaleyez and Scardey Cat Cosmetics. Another favourite is http://www.shirocosmetics.com, all of her shadow collections are inspired by computer/video games.

Thanks for the tips on those shops, Shy! I love them, especially the video game inspired ones… loving all the references to some of my favourite games!

I normally use a B cream or tinted moisturiser when im at home, and leave a more expensive foundations for when I go out. I normally just use a mascara and lip gloss too.

Keep an eye out at coles/woolworths for magazine GWP as they have some good freebies from brands like model co, Designer Brands and Napoleon.

I agree with the ladies here that Maybelline and Revlon will be your best bet for affordable, quality cosmetics.

Maybelline and L’Oreal both get huge thumbs up from me for their mascaras… Maybelline’s Falsies are my current go-to mascara while L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes is what I wear on fancy nights out.

Revlon’s foundations are better than Maybelline’s (which are still quite good), but are also more expensive. Revlon’s Colorstay foundation and Maybelline’s Dream Mousse are pretty popular.

For bronzers, check out L’Oreal’s range while for blushes, Rimmel has a pretty affordable (and well pigmented!) line of blushes.

For eyes, I second Evanescencessy’s recommendation of NYX, mainly for their single eyeshadows, eyeliners, and jumbo eye pencils.

For lips, I reckon Revlon and L’Oreal will be your best bet… but in my opinion Revlon makes better lipsticks while L’Oreal makes better glosses, but to each their own! I personally use NYX’s Mega Shine Lip Glosses and Round Lip Sticks, but that’s because I know their colors well… shopping online for them without know what they look like can be a bit intimidating!

I get all my beauty essentials for free thankfully 🙂
Anything I do pay for is normally a gift with purchase deal or buy one get one free from priceline etc 🙂
You can spend forever in a priceline store testing things without being harassed for purchases like myers etc

Hey! I am a big fan of Rimmel products, good price and great products!
Same for Maybelline, Revlon, Covergirl. Even go to Priceline and check out the brand Savvy, I bought a gorgeous deep red lipstick for $4.95 and love it! I am not sure what their foundation is like but give it a test whilst you’re there =) Maybe also just cut down to “basic” make up essentials for a bit? Keep an eye out in the catalogues too so you know when the stores are having sales. Good luck!

I’m not sure if Revlon make a tinted moisturiser but I’m currently using the one from Nude by Nature which I purchased from Priceline (not sure where else they stock it). It’s the first tinted moisturiser I’ve ever used and I think it’s okay, not that great, reason being that it has quite a strong sunscreen smell. A positive is that it does have sunscreen so you don’t have to worry about applying sunscreen prior to the tinted moisturiser. There are only two shades, the beige is very light and the tan is quite dark and there’s no inbetween shade. If the shades match you, go for it. If the shades don’t match your skin colour, I suggest you visit a Laura Mercier counter because they have several shades and will match it to your skin colour, they will most likely give you a sample size to trial for a few days but I do realise that the brand isn’t exactly ‘budget’ but hopefully there’s some good xmas bargains or boxing day sales. good luck !
