DIY spa treatment

While I’m sure nearly every woman on the planet would love to drop everything and head away on a spa weekend, pesky things like money, time and responsibilities always seem to get in the way. And while we know how important it is to de-stress and relax every once in a while, pampering ourselves with a spa treatment doesn’t always seem very realistic when so many other things take priority.

But I’m here to tell you that where there’s a will, there’s a way.  And if you can manage to find even an hour to yourself, it is possible to create your own spa treatment at home. So start cutting up the cucumber and wrapping your hair in a towel because here are some tips on how you can turn your bathroom into your own spa sanctuary…

Set the mood

You’re in your bathroom at least twice a day so it’s nothing new, but by simply lighting some candles and playing some music, you can completely change the mood of the room. Candles that have relaxing aromas are best if you want to enjoy a subtle scent that isn’t overpowering. Glasshouse Fragrances Tahaa Vanilla Caramel Triple Scented Miniature Candle is the perfect size for next to the bathtub and combines fragrant notes of vanilla, fresh coconut and frankincense, to delight your senses.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating is the essential first step to a DIY spa treatment. By exfoliating, you’re removing any dead skin cells and prepping your skin for further treatment, sort of like creating a blank canvas. Because the skin on your face and body are completely different, make sure you’re using separate products for each. For your body, the sea salt granules in Natio Orange Blossom Sea Salt Scrub provide the perfect texture to clean and exfoliate deeply. For your face, the QV Face Exfoliating Polish is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin and contains anti-irritant avemide 15 to ensure your face is soothed and not irritated.

Steam

You don’t have to own a sauna to benefit from a steam and you don’t have to have acne prone skin to need one either. Steaming your skin helps to open up your pores, unclog any hidden impurities and increases blood circulation for fresher looking skin. It is an indulgent activity that follows brilliantly after exfoliation and can easily be performed at home using the LUSH Dream Steam Steamer Tab. Simply fill a medium sized bowl with very hot water, drop the tab in, place a towel over your head and bowl and let the steam travel up to your face. The scent of chamomile and lavender will help your mind relax as you skin soaks up the benefits. If you want your body to benefit as well, simply dip a washcloth into the hot water and pat onto your skin.

Facemask

You can’t officially call it a spa treatment until you’re laying back, eyes closed, wearing a facemask. And while there are plenty of homemade options out there, sometimes it’s nice to have the work already done for you.  anumi Sandy White – Hydrating Masque contains six handy ready-made sachets, so all you have to do is open one and apply. Ideal for softening, toning and refining skin, it’s perfect for nourishing your complexion after a steam.

Moisturise

To finish off your DIY spa treatment and make sure all your hard work doesn’t go to waste, it’s essential to moisturise. When choosing a body moisturiser, you want something that will sink into your newly exfoliated and renewed skin without being too heavy. Natio Orange Blossom Body Lotion absorbs quickly and keeps your skin at a healthy moisture balance. Ingredients such as green tea, almond and sesame oil also work together to strengthen and nourish your skin. Plus the orange blossom scent is the perfect way to end your pamper session.
