Hair salon offers “no chat treatments”

In my experience, girls who get their hair done fall into one of two camps:

A: The girl who is always up for a chat with her hairdresser, keen to talk through her style and catch up on all the goss.

OR…

B: The girl who is happy to let her stylist do her thing, while she soaks up some peace and quiet – preferably with a good magazine in her lap.

For those in the B camp, a hairdresser who tries to strike up a conversation is quite frankly frightening (no offence).

The good news? A hair salon in the UK is now catering to these quieter clients, offering “no chat treatments”.

Located in Cardiff, Bauhaus Hair Salon understands small talk isn’t for everyone and wants their clients to feel free to be silent, without causing offence.

So how many women will actually take them up on the offer (and will it take off in Australia)?

Well, of 261 people polled on Stylist.com about whether they enjoy small talk during their styling sesh, a whopping 52 per cent said they hated it, while 42 per cent think it’s awkward.

Just seven per cent actually enjoy the conversation. Sooo the whole notion of the modern women being besties with her hair stylist couldn’t be further from reality, then.

Whether or not the same can be said for Aussie beauties remains to be seen, but as someone who gets along like a house on fire with her hairdresser, I’m amazed by the data.

On the flipside, I can see how the offering could also give stylists some much-needed R&R!

Do you like to talk to your hairdresser? Or is a “no chat treatment” right up your alley?

  1. I have a haircutter who is happy with some comfortable silence thank goodness!! We have a little bit of a chat but it’s not forced (and exhausting) like I’ve found it to be with others that I’ve been (and not gone back to) before!
