We try: The Hollywood Laser Peel
Skin lost its glow? After the chilly Sydney winter, I know mine had. So when I was given the chance to try the skin treatment that had all the celebrities lining up, I jumped at the chance. Already a big trend in my favourite city (LA, of course!), the Hollywood Laser Peel takes its name from the stars who swear by it. Being a sucker for trying anything even remotely related to Kim Kardashian West, I couldn’t wait to give it a go. Watch the video above to see how the treatment works, and check out my full review below…
What treatment did you get and where?
I went to Dr Natasha Cook’s Darlinghurst Dermatology clinic to try the Hollywood Laser Peel (otherwise known as the Carbon Spectra Peel). The Hollywood Laser Peel is said to be loved by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. I had one treatment that was then followed by another treatment two weeks later.

How much does the treatment cost?
One treatment is priced at $275 at Darlinghurst Dermatology, or $250 a session if you purchase a pack of six.
From start to finish, what did the treatment involve?
I was given a plush, comfortable robe to wear and cleansed my skin of all my makeup with Dr Cook’s skin care range, Dr Natasha Cook™ Cosmeceuticals. Then it was go time, with some eye pads, my goggles on and the carbon applied to my skin. That’s right, carbon – it provides a darkness that attracts the laser, making it think that it’s zapping away pigments in your skin. During the first laser, which was in Spectra mode, the carbon acts as a mask, absorbing all the heat from the laser and channelling it into the skin beneath it. The second laser was on the Q-switch mode which blasted the carbon off my skin and exfoliated the upper layers of my skin. This laser made a clicking sound as it moved across the skin and there was a subtle smell of smoke from the carbon as it worked, but this is the laser that really gets into the skin and helps aid rejuvenation. The final laser was then passed over my skin to help stimulate collagen and refine pores.
How did the treatment feel on your skin?
I actually really enjoyed the feel of the laser – it felt really warm (but not hot) as it moved across my skin, like sinking part of your face into warm water. There was no pain and I found the whole process really relaxing.
How did your skin feel immediately after the treatment?
Rather than the regular flaking skin and redness that can come after a peel, my skin was G-L-O-W-I-N-G. It felt incredibly soft to the touch and I went back to the office sans makeup without a worry. After my second treatment two weeks later, my skin glowed even more. I love that this treatment offers all the amazing skin benefits of a peel without any of the downtime.
How did your skin feel a couple of days after the treatment?
My skin continued to glow for days on end. I got so many compliments and I was able to wear less makeup. WIN! Between the treatments I used the Dr Natasha Cook™ Cosmeceuticals range and I feel like it really helped to maximise the effects of the Hollywood Laser Peel.
What were the results like?
I absolutely loved what this treatment did for my skin! After the two treatments I noticed that my pores looked much less prominent, my skin tone looked more even and my hormonal acne had cleared up in certain areas. Oh, and did I mention the glow? Yeah, it really was something else. Now that I’ve had my treatments I’ve maintained the results by using the Dr Natasha Cook™ Cosmeceuticals CONCENTRATED MICROPEEL, which is a great at-home alternative in between treatments. If you can get your hands on it, I would definitely suggest doing so.
Who would you recommend this treatment for?
Anyone! The Hollywood Laser Peel is suitable for all skin types and, as it only takes 20 minutes and has no downtime, it’s perfect for anyone’s schedule. The A-listers love to get it before any major events, so it’s perfect in the lead up to big days (read: weddings, Christmas parties, birthdays, etc).

I do like the sound of this! I wonder how long the session is? It seems expensive, but when you price other spa treatments, perhaps it's comparable. If it's 15-20 minutes, then it's pricey. But if it was 45 - 60 minutes (just long enough for a power nap as well!), it would be more appealing to me than a massage.

Thanks, Elunia! I missed that bit. $250 and no time for a power nap... Looks like I'll have to pass! ;)

This looks like it is in the realm of Science Fiction to me, but I am "The Ancient One!" Not something I could cope with but I can appreciate that it has a wide appeal.

This treatment does sound great. Most facial peels suggest not having them too close to a special event as the skin needs to "calm" down a bit.
With no down time at all, no flaking and no redness, I can see this becoming a very popular treatment for special occasions.
