4 reasons your next summer hair colour needs to be in-salon

Are you a do-it-yourself kind of girl? Do you make jewellery and pluck your own brows? Are you handier than your boyfriend when it comes to dealing with IKEA furniture? If you are, then that’s great –but when it comes to changing your hair up for summer, all the results point to the hair stylists.
It’s not that you probably don’t do a good job on your hair when colouring it at home, but if you want an amazing result for summer, then it’s well worth visiting a hairdresser. Want to know why? Sure. Check out four reasons that’ll see you booking in an appointment before you can say ‘regrowth’.
They can find the perfect summer colour for you
In these warmer months, we want our hair to scream ‘summer!’ We want the right shade, right style, and above all, it should look natural. One of the best things about seeing a professional is that they can take into account your hair colour, skin tone and lifestyle and give you the best colour to suit you. Above all, they will create a natural summer look that won’t look like you’ve dip-dyed your ends in a bucket of bleach!
You’ll avoid those unsightly errors
Have you ever tried to go lighter on your own? Playing with blonde hues at home can be difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing, especially if you’re trying to achieve a balayaged look. Summer might be long in Australia, but it’s too short to be spent hiding away in shame from a bad at-home colour! Heading to the salon to see the professionals means you won’t end up applying too much colour and ending up with a look you don’t want – or one that ruins your hair!
They can achieve unusual looks
Want apricot ends? Reverse balayage? No problem. Stylists have done years of training to be able to master these looks in a way that isn’t damaging for your hair, so it makes sense to utilise their expertise – especially if you’re feeling creative.
They’ll take the utmost care
Hairdressers have studied the science behind hair colours and know the exact combinations that are safe and effective to use on your hair. They also know how long colour should be left on your hair and which colours different hair types are compatible with. Better yet, stylists will ensure your experience is pampering – and more importantly, effective – from consultation all the way through to your blow-dry.
So, what should you be asking your hairdresser for to get the best summer look for your hair?
Wella Professional BLONDOR Freelights is the ultimate in-salon highlighting service that’s perfect for summer. With the ability to create a multitude of looks, including highlights, balayage and block colour, it’s never been easier to find the perfect lightened hue for you – no matter your hair colour. The thing that sets Wella BLONDOR Freelights apart is that the service uses a freehand highlighting technique that eliminates the need for foils, creating a more natural sun-kissed look. Freelights is the product of choice for many celebrity stylists including Christine Rowe from Valonz Haircutters in Sydney, whose client list includes Cate Blachett among others.
What do you think are the benefits of going in-salon for a hair colour? What else do you prefer to leave to the professionals?

I love my hairdresser. I do. It's just so darn expensive to go all the time!

I am currently tossing up whether to go to the salon or to DIY. I want to go to the salon but it is just so expensive!

I like the sound of freestyle highlights as I hate being in the salon having foils done as it takes hours

I don't colour my hair. I couldn't be bothered with the regrowth. Once the greys start appearing, I'll most likely visit a salon.

A few months ago, I spent $215 for a trim and balayage in the CBD. The balayage faded after two weeks. Two weeks ago, I went to a local hairdresser and had my balayage redone properly with two tones. It looks amazing and it only cost $95. Just because it's pricey doesn't mean it's good.

Wella professionals are amazing at what they do and I feel very comfortable with them now that I've had this done. They are so caring and sensitive to what I wanted - it was like she was reading to my mind. I'd go through the Wella way again!

I think having experienced people do it is a benefit, as you can trust them more with your hair.

For me, going to the salon means my little bit of luxury. It's definitely pricey for me now that my hair is longer & I get a colour done (I don't do it often though), but I trust that my hairdresser knows what she's doing as I've had cheaper haircuts before & I was unhappy with the result...although I wasn't entirely happy with my last colour & cut from her either, but she'll find that out when I see her next.
The only other thing I leave up to the pros is hair removal, although some of that I do myself as well.

My budget only allows me to colour my own hair, and I am happy with that.

I went a couple of weeks ago and it cost $400 (crazy!!!) and I was really unhappy with the result :( Will be doing some more research to find a good salon.

I have been lucky enough to become friends with my hairdresser as a teenager, she is the only hairdresser I have been too that can do my hair perfect each time. I've never had an issue with her and she will tell you straight out if someone won't suit skin tone/face shape. If more hairdressers were like her I don't think there would be so many people afraid to go!

I'm due for a hair cut soon. I don't get my hair coloured at a salon though. I do my own at home. It would be nice to get it professionally done but I'm worried the regrowth would be hard to match if I decided to do it at home after the intial colouring at a salon. which would mean going to the salon every 6 weeks which I usually can't afford being a sinlge mum.

I always do my own colour because I'm just using brown and it's easy. I am thinking of going lighter over the summer though and am planning to see a professional because too much can go wrong trying to go lighter at home :-)

I'd love to get a professional colour, but it's just a luxury I can't afford

I do my own colouring.
Summer is the time I hide away & just wait for that horrific season to be done with. It's like social hibernation - I stop dating when it heats up & hunt fresh again in autumn.

The salon is definitely the way to go. I have tried the DIY and always manage to splatter hair colour all over me and the bathroom, plus I miss half of the regrowth I am trying to hide. It is better to pay an expert and have a scalp massage thrown in....ahh bliss

The other thing I leave to the professional is hair removal.

The hairdresser is my happy place and I love going there. It may seem expensive but when you consider that it is the one accessory you never remove, I believe it is worth the investment. I find that finding the right hairdresser is important and developing a relationship with them and the salon. They get to know your hair and you, are you happy with lots of upkeep or are you a wash and go kind of girl. I have been so impressed by the Wella team and I adore both their Blondor Freelights and Instamatic colours. Although it may be pricier, sometimes you get what you pay for. I personally think it is worth it to feel happy with my hair and good about my look. It made me feel so modern and stylish. If you can afford it, I would recommend it, without hesitation. It is the BEST colour I have ever had.

It may be worth it but it's pricier and not always a budget friendly option
