Reinvigorate your mind and body

Reinvigorate your mind and body

With spring comes a feeling of new beginnings. As we emerge from our winter slump, it’s time to hit the refresh button and work on reinvigorating our bodies from top-to-toe and our minds from the inside out.

Reinvigorate your MIND

Our minds have a powerful impact on how we feel, so to boost our day-to-day life, it’s essential to change the way we think. Research conducted by Schick found only one in two women feel confident, successful and empowered, which means half of us feel the opposite – which can be really detrimental.

Registered psychologist Victoria Kasunic believes, “If you don’t feel confident and empowered, then you will probably find it difficult to resist the pressure of others. For example, women who don’t feel empowered may be more likely to tolerate being treated poorly by their boyfriend or employer. If you don’t feel confident, you probably won’t ask for a pay rise or reach out for help when you need it.”

So, how can we turn that around?

Victoria suggests taking a few minutes to close your eyes and check in with yourself: “Take note of how your body is feeling and pay attention to whatever you notice. Then, ask yourself: What do I need today? Listen for the answer and take action. Set the intention that whatever needs come up – eg. go to bed early, have fun, get your tax return done, be kind to yourself – you will make it a priority that day. That way, you set up the day acknowledging yourself first before you go out into the world of other people and other responsibilities.

She also adds that always saying “yes” (even when you don’t necessarily want to do something) is a bad habit many women have. Sound familiar? Try this technique…

“A great way to empower yourself to say ‘no’ is to think about it as a way to say yes to yourself. Rather than feeling guilty or bad because you have said no to someone or something, see it as a way that you can say yes to yourself and use the time and energy you saved by saying no to invest back into something that nurtures or benefits you. People will respect you more when you can maintain boundaries and you will end up feeling more energised and less resentful of others.”

Reinvigorate your BODY

While we’re working on boosting our confidence and self-worth on the inside, let’s also start loving our bodies on the outside.

After months of hiding under layers of clothing and being subjected to hot showers, your skin is probably in dire need of rejuvenation. So, light a candle (our current fave is Glasshouse Fragrances Arabian Nights), lock yourself in the bathroom and spend an afternoon pampering your body.

Step #1 Start with a good, deep exfoliation.

Skin dries out quite a bit during winter, so begin by shedding all the accumulated dead skin. bh recommends:

  1. Babescrub Himalayan Pink Salt Scrub
  2. Palmolive Body Butter Coconut Scrub
  3. Sanctuary Spa 4 Day Moisture Oil Scrub

Adding dry body brushing to your daily routine can also work wonders. Using a natural bristle brush, scrub in circular motions starting from your feet and working your way up towards your heart. Not only will this speed up the exfoliation process, but dry body brushing can also help to increase circulation, rejuvenate the nervous system and improve muscle tone. You can read more about the benefits here.

Step #2 Shape yourself

When it comes to hair removal downstairs, every woman is unique. Some of us prefer to just keep it nice and tidy, others like to play around with shapes, and then there are those who prefer to have nothing down there at all. Whichever category you fall into, the new Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle (with a razor at one end and a trimmer at the other) will give you the results you’re after. If you’re looking for a more permanent hair removal solution (and freedom from waxing or shaving), the Philips Lumea Precision Plus is an investment, but you one you may find completely worth it.

Step #3 Moisturise and massage

Last but certainly not least, take the time to truly treat your skin to some much-needed moisture. We’re all so busy, we often just slap on a lotion as quickly as possible (if at all!), but this time, use a massage motion to allow your skin to really soak up the product.

The movements will help to increase circulation (hello, glowing skin) and ensure the product penetrates your skin, rather than just sitting on top.

Bonus points if you can get your partner to do it for you!

bh’s top moisturiser picks:

  1. Rosehip by essano Certified Organic Body Oil
  2. Avène Cold Cream Body Lotion
  3. Kiehl’s Crème de Corps
  4. Nutrimetics Nutri-Rich Moisturising Body Satin
