Is your bra making you ill?

Is your bra making you ill?

We all know the importance of a good bra for boosting your bust, but did you know your choice of undergarments can also affect your health?

In addition to bra-related back pain, new research by Triumph suggests that those who wear ill-fitting bras are at risk of health problems like headaches and indigestion.

Shockingly, the lingerie company found 76 per cent of UK women are wearing the wrong bra size, with the majority admitting to never being measured.

Speaking to The Mail Online, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy spokesperson Sammy Margo explained the health effects:

“If a bra is too tight, it can create pressure on the nerves, muscles and blood vessels around the shoulders, upper back and rib cage, leading to pain, headaches, and even constant pins and needles in the arms,” she explained.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean you should wear a larger bra: “Wearing a bra that doesn’t support the breasts efficiently can lead to postural problems, such as rounded or hunched shoulders, as the woman will naturally sit and stand awkwardly to compensate for her unsupportive, ill-fitting bra,” she continued.

“The weight of the breasts combined with poor posture and a sedentary lifestyle can even exacerbate digestive problems, such as heartburn and IBS.”

Unfortunately, the only way to ensure you’re wearing the right bra (and avoid these horrid health issues) is to have a fitting, ladies. It might be a bit #awkward, but it could save you a whole lotta pain in the long run!

Have you had a proper bra fitting, or do you avoid them at all costs? What’s your go-to bra?
