Why is my hair so dry? This one-stop treatment is for you
While I usually try to take pretty good care of my hair, sometimes a trip to the salon – for a haircut or otherwise – can fall to the bottom of my priorities list. Unfortunately, I can go from smooth and silky hair to frizzy, lacklustre, dry and brittle hair nearly overnight (a downside to having curls!); however, there’s no need to mourn for me and my unruly tresses as I recently experienced the mother of all hair treatments that has left me transformed.
Introducing Semi di Lino from Italian salon brand Alfaparf Milano. Semi di Lino is a in-salon prescriptive line based on a professional diagnosis: the hairdresser evaluates the status of the hair, identifies the different needs and offers a personalised treatment. The Semi di Lino line is composed by four ranges: Sublime (to enhance all hair types), Diamond (to illuminate normal hair); Moisture (to nourish dry hair); and Reconstruction (to strengthen damaged hair).
I opted for Moisture Nourishing Treatment to treat my poor, dry curls, and brittle hair and documented my experience should anyone else want to reverse their hair woes.
Step #1 Consultation with hairdresser to find what kind of treatment fits hair needs
I had a consultation with one of the beautiful hairdressers at Milano Hair Studio in Hunter’s Hill, Sydney. She advised that due to my dry curls, colour damage and frizz the Moisture Nourishing Treatment would be the most appropriate treatment for frizzy hair.
Step #2 Detoxifying Mud
Before the treatment is applied, the Sublime Detoxifying Mud is put into my hair (for professional use only). This is done to return hair to its natural state and prepare it to better receive the subsequent treatments. Excess product and external pollution is removed, and hair is brought back to its natural pH level.
My mud mask was left on for ten minutes before being washed out with two shampoos. Each shampoo comes from the specific line best suited to your hair needs, so in my case I was washed with Semi di Lino Moisture Shampoo with nutri-sugars extracted from honey.
Step #3 Apply the treatment and leave on under heat
The Semi di Lino Moisture Nutritive Mask treatment is expertly applied to damp hair before being left to sit underneath heat. Heat is used to ensure that the optimal amount of the Semi di Lino liquid is absorbed into the hair.
The treatment ultimately has three major benefits: Colour, shine fixing and pollution defence. UV filter and antioxidant protect the cosmetic colour while flaxseed extracts are gradually released to ensure long-lasting shine. The innovative Semi di Lino treatment features something Alfaparf Milano calls ‘Urban Defence Pro’, a biotechnological active ingredient which shields hair against the damaging effects of pollution. Flaxseed extract, UV filtering ingredients and antioxidants are also present in the formula to ensure that optimal shine is achieved and colour can be restored.
Step #5 Blowdry and enjoy your amazing new hair!
After the treatment was washed out, Sublime Cristalli Liquidi was applied to my hair before blow drying. The final step in the treatment, Cristalli Liquidi is designed to illuminate hair and protect it from humidity – exactly what I needed!
It’s been quite some time since I experienced this treatment in-salon and I cannot believe how soft my hair still is! While my curls are back and some frizz is unavoidable, my hair does feel significantly more hydrated. Plus! I left with the products necessary to keep the results of this in-salon service at home; so while I may not be able to get to the hairdressers whenever I need a hair refresh, I can now do it myself from the comfort of my own bathroom. Bellissimo.
