Confessions of a beauty devotee

Confessions of a beauty devotee

Whilst others may remember their first kiss, first car, first home. I, beauty addict, do solemnly swear that I will always remember my first foray into luxe.

I was 17. A young, innocent (okay, maybe that’s pushing it) student, who in days gone by, had survived solely on Rimmel London Coffee Shimmer – the fail safe staple that found its way into every teenager’s bag – and a dab of mascara here and there. Who bothered to cleanse, let alone tone? Oh, how naïve I was.

But the day that changed my life forever was the day that I had my first facial. I sauntered in, a happy-go-lucky seventeen-year-old girl, and wandered out a woman. Okay, it wasn’t quite that dramatic. But it was still a facial epiphany. Never beforehand had I spent that long pampering, preening and caring for my skin.

Determined that was to change, there and then I scooped up Decleor Paris Cleansing Milk Face & Eyes, Decleor Paris Tonifying Lotion, Decleor Paris Aromessence Neroli, Decleor Paris Hydra Floral Hydrating Fresh Emulsion, and Guinot Gommage Grain d’Eclat.

Admittedly, thinking about the lengthy list of skincare products, combined with my mental calculation that I was in a far better financial position at 17 to drop a cool $250 on skincare than I am at 24, freaks me out. But, BUT, none of this can take away from the fact that it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Sure I’m all for finding a bargain, who isn’t, but my face is the one part of me that’s on display all day, everyday. It weathers everything, good and bad, so if that doesn’t deserve a little luxurious TLC, then I don’t know what does.
