4 questions you need to ask your brow technician

Are your brows uneven, sparse or simply not as #onfleek as you’d like?

These DIY eyebrow hacks will help you tame your caterpillars, but for a total brow overhaul, a trip to the salon could be in order.

Just like haircuts though, brow treatments are a two-way street, which means you need to work with your technician to get the very best result.

From waxing, threading, tinting and tattooing to eyebrow powder, brushes and pencils, it’s important to ensure your brows get the best expert treatment possible (after all, you’re spending good money!).

We speak to Elegant Lashes Company Director Merryn Calear to find out exactly what questions you need to ask your brow technician for great brow game, every time.

1. Do my brows need reshaping?

Answer: Your brows may have gotten a little wonky or thin over the years, especially if a little home maintenance has been involved.

bh: In other words, yes, they may require a little reshaping. Don’t worry, your brow technician has seen all manners of brow mishaps and is there to help restore yours to their former glory!

2. Should I get a brow tint?

Answer: A brow tint is the easiest, least expensive and quickest way to take years off your appearance. If you’ve started to colour your hair to hide greys, I recommend tinting your brows to complete the look and avoid looking washed out.

The treatment helps lift the whole face and adds an appearance of vitality. It’s also recommended for both men and women (especially for greying men who colour their hair but not their brows).

Brows grow out much faster than lashes so a tint should be done every two weeks.

bh: Not sure what exactly a brow tint involves? bh’s Rosie reviewed her own experience here.

3. What should I do to maintain my brows?

Answer: Your brow technician will be able to recommend what to do at home, and how often is best for you to come back for a brow tidy.

bh: This could involve using tweezers (try Artiste Precision Tweezers Slant Tip) to remove any stray hairs that pop up between then and your next appointment, without interfering too much with the shape!

4. Should I use pencil, gel or powder for my brows?

A: Your brow technician can recommend which is best for you to achieve the look you want and offer tips on how to best fill in your brows to bring out the best in your features.

bh: Your brow technician may recommend a brow pencil or powder, which can be used to fill in your brows and add definition. Clear brow gels such as Ardell Brow Sculpting Gel are also popular for fuller-browed beauties.
