The selfie that could save your life

Considering around one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime,* it’s more important than ever to be able to identify the early warning signs.

Lisa Royle is a lady who discovered a tumour on the underside of her breast, and the only indication of it was a few subtle dimples.

Bravely, Lisa shared a photo of the area on Facebook with the caption:

“Ok so I never thought I’d post a boob picture on Facebook but I thought I would before it gets chopped off next week. So here it is….. This all that I found on my boob. Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we’re all rushing around getting ready in a morning. Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save your life.”

Since then, the photo has been shared over 55,000 times and and is doing an excellent job of raising awareness.

Lisa’s husband later posted: “”Lisa is out of surgery and doing really well. Bit groggy from the morphine but in good spirits and should be home later this evening.”

We hope Lisa recovers well and that her experience resonates with women all over the world. Keep tabs on your breasts, ladies – it could save your life.
