The Fur Salon’s Activated Charcoal Exfoliation Treatment Review

Last year I became a first-time dog mum to a rescue dog named Pumpkin. Pumpkin was hit by a car and left stray with a broken leg for many weeks before being taken into the shelter and adopted by us. After an unsuccessful surgery, Pumpkin now has three legs, but she’s still the most vivacious girl and has quickly become the most important little creature in our lives.

After such a tough beginning for Pumpkin, we now go to great lengths to make sure she’s living her best life. She eats homemade food each meal, she has her own little room in our apartment for her bed and toys, she has an Instagram account so we can document her experiences, and of course, as a beauty lover myself, Pumpkin gets treated to a day at the spa more often than most humans do!

So when one of Australia’s leading pet care brands, Rufus & Coco, opened a premier pet grooming salon in Mosman offering luxury treatments including charcoal exfoliating scrubs, mud baths, blueberry facials and pawidcures, I knew this would be a premium experience Pumpkin had to try.

I booked Pumpkin in for a Saturday morning at the salon, and here’s what we did!

The Salon

The Fur Salon is a spacious, bright, and inviting space located on Military Road in Mosman. You enter into a storefront where they sell Rufus & Coco products including collars, shampoos, and toys.

Through the back you’ll find three main areas — the grooming area, the bathing area and the party room area where you can actually host gatherings for your pet! The facilities are clean, modern, totally safe for your fur baby.

The Treatment

Given that Pumpkin is short-haired, a full groom wasn’t necessary. I wanted her to get something that wouldn’t be offered at other groomers around Sydney, so we opted for the charcoal exfoliating scrub treatment. (I wanted her to try the blueberry facial too but those are better suited to dogs with light-coloured fur!)

The amazing furologist (yes, that’s what they call their groomers!) was so friendly and warm. Pumpkin suffers from anxiety but the team was so patient and sweet with her which helped keep her calm.

The treatment started off with a Rufus & Coco shampooing to clean her fur and prep it for the scrub. Once she was all rinsed off, the furologist rubbed the charcoal exfoliating scrub all over her fur.

The charcoal scrub was scent-free and very gentle. It did not irritate Pumpkin at all.

They then did another shampoo after the treatment and massaged it in with loofa to get her squeaky clean! This was my favourite part to watch. It was so cute.

Then it was time for the blow dry and brush! Pumpkin is scared of loud noises so she wasn’t very keen on the blow dryer, but she loved being brushed! Finally, she got a quick pawidcure (nail clip) and finished off her morning at the salon with some quick laps of the party room to let out some excited energy!

Oh, and we picked her up a new collar too!

The Results

It’s been 3 weeks since Pumpkin’s trip to The Fur Salon and her fur is still so shiny, smooth, and soft. The charcoal scrub also really brightened up her coat and got rid of some darker, dirty spots that we’ve been struggling to get clean during her normal bath routine at home.

Overall, the experience was so lovely. The staff were friendly and experienced, the facilities were high-end, and the treatment was so luxurious! While Pumpkin may not need an activated charcoal exfoliation treatment very often, it’s always amazing to be able to pamper my fur baby whenever I get the chance. We both had so much fun!

Would you try a luxury treatment for your fur baby?
