Goat’s milk is here to soothe your sensitive skin

Signs of sensitive skin are never subtle – in fact, my face is so redness-prone and rosacea-plagued that the crimson cheeks I’m often sporting basically make it look as if I’ve been re-watching my most mortifying moments on a loop. But no, I’m not embarrassed, I’m just inflamed. One mistake, whether it be a drop of the wrong oil or 1.5 seconds in proximity of a heater, and my face is flared up with a frighteningly deep flush. Working in the beauty biz, it’s literally my job to trial a surplus of skincare products (champagne problems, I know), and whilst it’s wonderful to test out the latest and greatest formulas, sometimes I need to return to a few old faithfuls to calm my complexion when the day is done. Meet my sensitivity-soothing solution – goat’s milk. Yep, in addition to being irrevocably adorable, goats are also serious skin saviours. Goat’s milk is beyond amazing – essentially, it’s a superstar-status soothing ingredient packed with essential fatty acids to hit skin with a hefty dose of hydration. It also helps to enhance skin’s natural defence mechanism as it has a pH level that’s super similar to that of our own skin, meaning that it’s less irritating and more easily absorbed. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also loaded with lactic acid, the gentle giant of the acid family that will help to softly slough away dead skin cells without triggering irritation (yep, it’s an acid safe for even the most sensitive of souls). The moral of the story? If sensitivity or dryness is really getting your goat, give goat’s milk skincare a go. Get ready to reap the rewards – all relief, zero redness.

Skin Nutrient

Skin Nutrient Goat’s Milk Magic Sleep Cream

Your night routine is a great place to incorporate the ingredient, as your face works to recharge and rejuvenate overnight after a day filled with sensitivity triggers and environmental aggressors. This lush night cream is decadently rich in texture, a luxury that sensitive skin types often have to steer clear of in the name of avoiding breakouts, but in this case, though, goat milk has got your back, offering protein-packed hydration instead of a burst of blemishes. Slather on liberally before bed and let the formula get to work while you rest.

Kate Somerville

Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturising Cleanser ($58, mecca.com.au)

If one of the world’s biggest celebrity skin aestheticians is on board, you know an ingredient is legit. Kate Somerville’s goat milk offering comes in cleanser form (there’s also a matching moisturiser and eye cream), and it’s perfect for providing a calming cleanse that sweeps away impurities without stripping skin. In Kate’s case, the milk proteins are teamed with nourishing Manuka honey for an extra burst of moisture, plus, the sulfate-free status means it’s certainly safe for sensitive skin.

Thank Goat

Thank Goat Hydrate Mask ($34.95, thankgoat.com.au)

Besides the fact that it boasts a truly phenomenal name, we also love Thank Goat’s redness-reducing range for bringing clay masks into calming territory. They’re a satisfying self-care step, yes, but they’ve long been reserved for oily skin types due to their typically drying nature – until now. With a formulaic blend of pore-refreshing green clay and ultra-hydrating goat’s milk, skin is left soft, smooth and soothed.

Billie Goat Soap

A soothing serum designed to revive dull and dehydrated skin, Billie Goat Milk have paired their hero hydrator with Australian Kakadu plum and glycerine to rebuild damaged skin structure, whilst working to protect and hydrate your complexion. Thanks to the plum’s high vitamin C concentration, it also works to brighten and firm, reducing the appearance of age spots as it goes.
