Ultraceuticals skin challenge – 60 day progress report: Fine lines

bh member – Kassalee

My fourth consultation at Ultraceuticals was a little over two weeks since my last visit. My skin was thoroughly cleansed to remove all traces of make-up and then progress photos were taken. Again, I was shown the results with [a] comparison to previous photos and I continue to see improvement in my skin – it hasn’t reached a plateau or standstill, and there is more work to be done!

My Ultraceuticals therapist, Tracey, was a little disappointed I hadn’t had more of a reaction to my last Azyme treatment. She was hoping for more discomfort and skin peeling than what I experienced, as the after-effects had been barely noticeable to me. Time to ramp up the treatment! She felt my skin could tolerate a more intense treatment. My in-salon treatments were microdermabrasion followed by the Azyme peel treatment, whereby a mask is applied to the skin, which combines the fast-acting potent ingredients of retinol and bromelain (fruit enzyme from pineapple) and left on for five to 10 minutes. This is then worked into the skin using Ultrasonophoresis, where low-frequency ultrasonic vibrations are used to optimise the absorption of active ingredients into the skin. It was painless and relaxing as it was worked into my skin and any excess was cleaned off.

As with previous Azyme treatments, I was asked to cease using my take-home products that contained the active ingredients, vitamins A and C, as my skin was being sufficiently overloaded with these for the next five days. My skin tolerated the treatment well – there was redness for a day or two and some minor irritation including heat and itchiness that settled by the following day. By the second day after the treatment, I was experiencing peeling and flaking skin. It was noticeable on my nose, upper lip and chin, but still very light and looked as though I’d had a little too much sun the weekend prior.

I applied plenty of moisturiser following this treatment – the Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30+ Hydrating in the morning and the Ultra Moisturiser Cream in the evening. I was given an additional product to use at home – my choice of the Ultra Energising Mask or the Ultra Replenishing Mask – I chose the Ultra Replenishing Mask. It’s ideal for use post-treatment to comfort and support skin recovery and it’s also very hydrating. I now have a total of nine products to use throughout the 90 days. I also used the Ultra Replenishing Mask five days after [the treatment], and as it’s suitable to use two to three times per week, I have used it at least twice a week since. I’ve only managed to have one consultation since my last trial report as Ultraceuticals had prior commitments in the week I was due to visit.

I’m looking forward to good results in the next photos as my skin is feeling and looking its best. It’s tolerating the products with active ingredients and I’ve had no breakouts. I’ve been using the Ultra C10+ Firming Serum in the mornings on alternate days and as I’ve experienced no irritation, I’ll ask at my next visit about using it daily. I did commence using the Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum Mild (which contains pure retinol) on alternate days in the evenings, and this was changed a month ago to be used every day with no irritation.

The skin care regimen is easy to follow and even though I’ve changed my primer and foundation during this challenge, the Ultraceuticals products sit well under my make-up. I’m finding the products are lasting longer than I expected as they are quite concentrated and only a small amount is needed. I was getting low on my Ultra Brightening Foaming Cleanser and was given another over a month ago and I’m still using my original one, which will be finished in the next few days. I’ve been able to get almost every last bit out of it with the soft squeezy tube – I only cut it open yesterday and I was surprised to find a very small amount unused. I was probably a bit heavy-handed with the cleanser in the evening when double cleansing is recommended to remove make-up. It’s lasted 10 weeks. As has the Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex (I love this product), which is used daily in the morning, but as it comes in a pump dispenser, it’s not as easy to use every last bit – but I have cut the tube to extract it all!

I only have two more visits remaining before the 90 days is complete and I am more than impressed with the in-salon treatments that prepare and treat my skin to optimise the take-home products.
