Breaking my own beauty rules

Breaking my own beauty rules

Maybe it was the crazy crimson colour of the moon. Maybe it was just the equally crimson wine I had with dinner. But I broke one of my own beauty rules last night and I’m not even sorry.

As regular readers know, I’m a bit of a skincare geek. With skin that’s unco-operative at best and stubbornly spotty at worst, I like lab coats, clinical trials and ‘serious’ skincare. And I do not do cutesy. So I’m stunned that I not only used the new, oh-so-pretty Everyday Care products from Bloom, but that I’m actually planning to do it again.

The first surprise: Inside the cutely cartooned exterior of Buff Off beats the heart of a really respectable mechanical exfoliant. Polishing away inside a smooth, geranium-scented formula, the apricot kernels scrubbed me smooth and bright without leaving even a trace of waxy residue or tightness. Hmm. Interesting.

But surely something adorably named Clean With Envy couldn’t satisfy a true mask addict, could it? Um, yep. As the green kaolin clay plumbed the murkiest depths of my pores, I could almost feel excess oil, pollution and muck being purged and the scent of lavender oil even made it pleasant.

But Bloom’s Face The Day Ginseng Moisturising Lotion didn’t. Not a bit. It just soaked straight in to leave me cushiony soft and supple in seconds.

I really shouldn’t be so befuddled. When maker Natalie Bloom introduced me to the range she said she’d spent a year meticulously measuring, testing and reworking ingredients before bottling them. It’s just that those bottles are so darn sweet. I guess looks can be deceiving, huh? Just like rules are meant to be broken…
