Ultraceuticals skin challenge – 60 day progress report: Uneven skin-tone

The treatments that I’ve been having have been making some changes to my skin. The changes in the first four weeks felt like they were more noticeable, however I can definitely tell my skin is [still] changing.

My at-home treatments have increased in frequency since my last review and now I’m using each product daily (with the exception of the face mask which is two to three times weekly). My at-home treatments are easy to use and don’t affect my day-to-day beauty regimen. Sometimes it feels like I’m using so many products that surely my skin will be too oily/moisturised for my make-up, but I haven’t found this to be a problem at all.

The in-salon treatments are great because I get to speak with the same person and they can see the changes and know how my skin is reacting and how far I can push it. The salon treatments are much more intense than at home so I can feel them working quicker. They are typically short treatments, so if there is any discomfort (usually a tingling) then they are over and done with quickly. Because of the nature of the treatments, the few days after [each] treatment are the most trying as my skin flakes off and I look a little bit like a snake. But, as I mentioned in my previous review, it means I know it’s working so I suck it up.

I’ve been really impressed with the way my skin has changed and I’ve been telling everyone about how great the products are. There are two ways in which I’ve noticed the changes in my skin: firstly, how it feels and looks daily, and secondly, the changes seen in-salon with the Ultraceuticals technology.

Day-to-day, the difference I’ve seen in my skin is that the overall texture is much smoother than eight weeks ago when I started the trial. When I touch my skin, particularly when I’ve got no make-up on, it just feels so smooth. The general glow of my skin is much brighter and the discolouration (redness and freckles) is clearer. I’ve also noticed how plump/tight my skin is around my mouth, and under my eyes is fuller with less lines. In fact, one of my friends asked the other day if I had Botox because of how great my skin was looking! I would say that almost daily someone will compliment me on my skin, which is definitely not something that happened previously.

In terms of the difference noticed in [my] salon visits, I’m able to see much more detail around how things are working on a superficial level and deeper in the skin layers. Superficially, the changes in my skin are my pores have shrunk significantly and my skin tone is more even. Looking more deeply, the colouration under my skin is so much lighter and my face is being more protected by daily SPF application. The change in the bacteria in the pores has decreased significantly too – almost nothing now, which is great!

One thing I have noticed with the Azyme treatments I’ve been doing at home is that when I’m feeling tired and stressed (like the last few weeks), my skin is really showing how I feel – it will start to peel when it normally wouldn’t with at-home treatments. Prior to having these treatments, I was told that your skin takes longer to recover when you’re stressed and tired and it’s really showing at the moment. All you need to do is give it a bit of exfoliation and apply one of the masks and it clears it up, but this is just something to be aware of when you’re using the treatments to smooth your skin.

I had a talk with my Ultraceuticals therapist and we decided it would be best for me to use my Even Skintone Serum at night rather than during [the] day, because layering the serum underneath the SPF 50+ moisturiser was making my face feel a little bit too sticky. Now that I’ve made the switch to using the serum at night, I cleanse, apply [the] Even Skintone Serum, wait a few minutes, apply [the] Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum, wait a bit and then apply [the] Ultraceuticals Ultra Moisturiser Cream. In the daytime, I apply the Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum after cleansing, wait a few minutes and apply [the] Ultraceuticals UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 50+.

The therapist thought my pores were a bit congested, so she did a microdermabrasion and followed with an enzyme peel treatment. The microdermabrasion is a straw-like metal tube that sucks all the dirt and dead skin cells from the pores. It feels a bit like a mini vacuum gently sucking at my skin, but it’s not painful or irritating. This was followed by a 10-minute peel that is basically just a concentrated version of the Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum. The peel was a bit tingly, but not too bad. She cleansed off the peel after 10 minutes and then applied an Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex.

The downtime for the treatment was a day at most. My face was red and swollen for a few hours after the treatment, but [this] eventually subsided. There was a little bit of peeling and flaking, but nothing too major. I started using my treatment products five days after the treatment as per the instructions from my therapist.

It’s hard to quantify if my skin has changed, and if so, how much in the past month. I feel the results I got in the first month have maintained throughout this past month. The change in the first month seemed more significant because I could definitely tell there was an improvement. This past month has been a steady path towards better skin. The changes I have seen that have been maintained are a more even skin tone and texture. The size of the pores on my nose has reduced – not by 100 per cent, but significantly enough to see a difference.
