As summer draws to a close *major sad face*, it’s time to take a long, hard look at the condition of your skin and hair. Drenching your locks in chlorinated or salty sea water does your hair no favours, depleting it of much-needed moisture leaving it dry and frizzy. “Swimming can strip the hair of moisture and chlorine can discolour your hair, especially blonde hair,” explains ELEVEN Australia Co-Creative Director and three-time Hairdresser of the Year, Joey Scandizzo. “[After swimming], make sure you rinse your hair straight away in fresh water and replenish it with loads of moisture.”

The remedies

  1. Yes good idea – I think coconut oil is definitely for use for external things and not to eat (like I used to do and then got very sick! It was from the coconut oil ‘fad’ and I unfortunately fell into it and then found out too late that it was full of toxic and dangerous hydrated fats! so not to be eaten but great for the hair (and skin etc)

  2. Wow it’s funny reading what I wrote years ago! That daughter is now 17 and experimenting with different hairstyles – currently she has a quirky bob and it’s actually fun watching her have her different phases with hair – but luckily she has good taste and goes to the haircutter that I recommended to her (locally he’s an amazing hair cutter!)

  3. Yeah I tend to have to get a haircut /trim after summer/before winter because of the fast growing cells in my hair (nails and skin too) all summer. Why does everything grown faster in summer? Is it the warmth,the uv light or the more activity? I wonder.

  4. i don’t tend to use the air-con in summer – I like the house to warm up and feel summery. I tend to use the air con all winter though because I use it for warming up the house. Winter is when I notice it’s drying effects.
