How-to: manage your freckles
Are you a freckle person? Do you have them/love them/hate them? I grew up despising the big brown spots all over my face, but I’ve since grown to love them. The key to learning to love your freckles is knowing exactly how to manage them. Whether it’s by using the right make-up, trialling a secret skin treatment or embracing them as they are, there are ways we can start to like this part of life that most of us can’t seem to avoid.
Here are three ways to befriend your freckles
Protect your skin
If you’ve got enough freckles (I know I do!), then sunscreen will be your best friend when it comes to preventing any more from spattering across your face. Super strong, long-lasting sunscreen with SPF30+ is the way to go – and not just on your face. Cover yourself in protective sunscreen to not only look after your skin this summer, but to minimise the chance of getting too many more freckles. Rest assured, though, if its freckles you’re craving, spend enough time in the sun (even with sunscreen), and you’re bound to land a few cuties.
Banish dark spots!
If for some crazy reason you despise your freckles and want to get rid of them, then skin lighteners tend to be the way to go. Products like SK-II Cellumination Beauty Essence contain Vitamin C, which help to buff away surface skin cells and lighten your complexion. Alternatively, there are some kooky natural remedies rumoured to rid you of your freckles. Facial masks made from fruits such as apricots, strawberries and cucumbers contain high levels of antioxidants, which work to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the formation of new skin cells. Sounds bizarre, but it could be worth a go!
Make them over
The key to making your freckles look gorgeous is to keep it natural. By caking your face in thick, heavy make-up, it becomes pretty obvious that you’re trying to hide those sweet spots sprinkled across your nose. Tinted moisturisers, or foundations with a light, dewy finish are the holy grail for freckled folk. Try Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser for alightweight coverage that blends away imperfections while giving you sun protection as well! If you prefer to opt for a foundation, AHAVA Light Foundation offers sheer to medium coverage and is oil-free for a light, dewy complexion.
