There are lotions and potions galore to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, but many of us neglect our hair during the warmer months. Heat, chlorine and salt water can all quickly leave our hair looking more frazzled than fab!
Protect the ends
The ends of our hair have been there the longest so naturally they are the most vulnerable to damage. Try to choose hairstyles that keep the ends tucked away such as the on-trend bun or for something more glamorous try a loose french braid and pin the ends under.
Prevention is better than the cure
You wouldn’t (or shouldn’t!) head outside without sun protection on your skin, so don’t leave the house before protecting your hair. There are some great UV hair protectors around – L’Oreal Professionel Solar Sublime Protection Spray is one of my faves to keep your hair free free from frizz on those dreaded humid days.
In a rush? Dilute a couple of teaspoons of sunscreen in a spray bottle of water, then spritz onto your hair before you head out for instant sun protection.
Keep it cool
Heat from the sun causes damage to all parts of the hair and can leave it brittle and dry. After a day in the sun, the last thing your hair needs is to be blasted with a hair dryer or styled with a straightener! So give your hair a break and bring out your inner boho babe with au-naturel beach waves. Your hair will thank you!
Remember, when coming out of chlorine or salt water, always rinse your hair in cold water as it helps to close the pigment of the hair and protect it from any further damage.
Stay nourished
One of the major hair problems we can suffer from in summer is dry hair. Not only is dry hair frustrating to style but it is also much more prone to breakage.
