As we age, certain things are inevitable – wrinkles being high on that list.
And while some wrinkles are to be celebrated as a sign of a joyful life full of laughter (AKA smile lines that sit happily under your eyes), there are another set of emotion-related wrinkles that we can work to avoid.
Introducing: stress wrinkles, also known as worry or frown lines.

The by-product of furrowed brows and clenched jaws, these stress-induced lines are most commonly managed with effective injectable treatments like Botox.
However, if injectables aren’t your cup of tea, and living an entirely stress-free life full of zero tension is a little, well, unachievable, there are a few other solutions for softening frown lines and limiting the tension in your jaw and forehead.
1. Meditate
Meditation can come in a million and one different forms. So if sitting in a dark room alone with your thoughts is anything but relaxing, you might find your meditative state in activities like walking, swimming or yoga. The key is to slow down your racing mind, relax your shoulders and let any pent up anger or tension go.

2. Breathe as though you’re blowing up a balloon
We’re talking deep, intentional and present inhales and exhales. When it comes to stress related anxiety, it’s important to gain control over your breath. Try filling your chest for three seconds and exhaling for four.
3. Look at your face
Sit in front of a mirror and study your ‘resting’ face. Some of us naturally furrow our brow without even realising. Consciously unclench your jaw and keep your forehead soft, taking in exactly what this feels like. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to identify when you are clenching and break the habit.

4. Boost your collagen
Increasing your body’s amount of collagen will help to plump out and soften existing lines.

Of course, these wellness practices will also provide better results when paired with an effective skin care routine. Do you have any tips to prevent worry lines?

I’m always filled with stress so I try to give myself moments where I can just relax and be in a space that’s quiet where I can meditate
Once I am aware that I’m frowning, I make sure to relax those muscles
Do not have those even though at my age everyone I know has them. I do not worry, never did, so muscles used are idle. I laugh a lot, so those in corners of eyes will come eventually
Collagen and meditation definitely helps me!
Good tips!
I took up Transcendental Meditation late last year and it’s definitely helped me feel more relaxed, even amidst stress.
Lately though, I’ve been noticing that my ‘resting face’ is really tense (no wonder people think I’m always angry), so I make conscious efforts throughout the day to relax my face!
Yoga & meditation do wonders, physically & mentally!
I’ve never been too much of a worrier even though I’ve had many a stressful time during my life. I think I must have been blessed because I don’t have any frown lines at all.
My face definitely relaxes when I meditate. Life is hard so I try to take time everyday to chill, laugh and be grateful.
Yep! Breath. Meanwhile how stunning is Natalie Portman!!
Enjoyed reading this. I’ll be giving the breathing tip a go.
I do take collagen every now and then but never tried meditation
Good advice. I try to take collagen powder daily
Some good advice.
Important for all ages
Oh is this even a thing? I thought they came naturally?
I mentally don’t worry about things and I think that shows on the face – that’s my tip: don’t worry! ; )
haha i wish it was this simple! 🙂
I do worry a lot always have, my husband always tells me to smile 🙂
Ha! I wish I could do this, worrying seems to be a hobby of mine
The need to meditate is a priority
I always intend to start meditating but I’m yet to do it!
Facing life with a positive attitude and smiling more then frowning makes a big difference.
Wish I could worry less. Not likely since my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few days ago.
So sorry Hayley644 that your Father has Cancer I hope that the Treatments he is getting will work, you are in my Thoughts and Prayers.
Would love to be able to afford injectables so many areas that need doing. But I am using the anti-aging formula’s in Face Creams, Face Masks and Serums. Guess there is so much we can do to stave off Aging.
Thank you, he was only diagnosed on Tuesday. It’s a big shock to us all. The cancer has spread to his bones so hoping his treatment will at least slow the spread.
I tend to ‘pout’ without realizing I do it, and it has resulted in those little vertical lip lines that smokers tend to get. As for stress-induced wrinkles, the simplest solution would be to divorce (just kidding …. sort of).
Sounds like some good advice.
Congratulations on your pregnancy, Ellyloves!
Deep breathing and mediation is important.
I have also been in your position 4 years ago. It is very tough. It breaks your soul. I feel for you Hayley.
Ok good! He is being nice.
So good that you don’t worry!!
Good to hear that you are not much of a worrier!
That is so good to hear!
I used to do yoga but I am finding being pregnant, I can’t do most of the yoga moves.
Lol I should have explained myself I did think that may come across not as I meant it. He always says it to me when I’m stressed or sad even sick to release those endorphins.
She is so stunning! A natural beauty.
That is so great to hear!
I need to do that!! Really try.
I hope he is saying in a nice way! And not when you are arguing or disagreeing about something.
Very well said!
Hang in there, just be there to support and stay strong.
I’ve been there and it is really tough.
I was lucky that I was on maternity leave so I could spend 12 hours a day with my mum and dad, especially since my father didn’t have long.
I pout in photos when I was younger!
My little boy, copies me and it is quite funny!
I should definitely spend a few minutes just breathing!
Thank you so much!
I’m almost there!
Haha that’s a fun way of putting it! And you are absolutely right.
It can be infectious.
Oh God, Hayley – what devastating news! I’m so sorry to hear that.
Thanks Ellyloves … Its something I focus on daily. No one wants to be around a sad sack.
That is so amazing of you!
You must have so much patience and loving and caring.
Is it 5 days a week?
I work with special needs children and they are so awesome. They make me smile so much. Its the most awesome feel good job.
Sorry to hear this Hayley644, sending lots of love your way.
