Top 5 beauty tips men should steal from women

While there’s every indication that male grooming is on the rise, there are still many guys out there who think ‘beauty’ doesn’t apply to them whatsoever. Sure, it may not in traditional sense – we certainly don’t expect you to endure extensive mani-pedis, or spend hours styling your hair - however, there are certain beauty tips and tricks that apply, in some cases, even more to men than women. Ladies, take note: your husbands, boyfriends, fathers and brothers can all benefit from these five gender-neutral beauty gems.
1) Cleanse properly
Men are just as susceptible to dry skin as women, yet all too many opt to wash their faces with an inappropriate, all-purpose soap. While your man may insist this does the job, it could lead to rougher skin texture and even irritation – especially if he’s shaving regularly. Boys, take a leaf out of our beauty book and invest in a good facial cleanser. It doesn’t have to look ladylike, but it should help to wash off dirt and grime without affecting your skin’s natural hydration.

2) Exfoliate regularly
While this may seem like an unnecessary, extra beauty step, it’s equally as important for men to exfoliate their facial skin to prevent ingrown hairs caused by shaving, as well as imperfections associated with male skin (which is generally oiler). It doesn’t have to be a daily exercise and depending on the product, once or twice a week is as often as required to ensure your skin stays silky smooth and blemish-free.

3) Use sunscreen
Men are at a slightly higher risk of developing skin cancer than women, so it’s vital they apply sunscreen as often as their female counterparts. If these health implications don’t provide enough incentive, we implore all boys to consider their vanity. Studies have shown that daily use of sunscreen significantly slows skin ageing caused by the sun's ultraviolet rays – and this applies just as much to blokes as it does to us!

4) Tend to your nails
Although many guys harp on about the importance of a good handshake, all too many men fail to tend to their fingernails which could result in an unpleasant experience for the handshakee. If that’s not incentive enough, neat nails also say a lot to women about your general hygiene. We’re not asking you to have a Shellac manicure, merely to scrub them clean, and file them neatly. 5) Brighten your smile
While guys don’t have the advantage of elaborate make-up techniques to enhance their features, they can significantly improve their overall look just by focusing a bit more on their teeth. In addition to brushing and flossing twice a day, a tooth-whitening product will help enhance your smile, making you look younger (not to mention ensuring ladies look twice).

My husband thought I was crazy when I offered to give him a facial, mani and pedi before we got married. Until he saw how good his hands, hooves and skin looked. Now he has his own product drawer. Wait, I'm going to have to set that man a budget...
