Find out your skin age using My Beauty Potential!

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered to yourself, “how old do I actually look? Does my skin look like it’s meant to look at my age?”

I certainly have. Especially now that I’m in my late 20s and am sporting a bit more pigmentation and few extra lines.

If you’re in the same boat, then you’ll be pretty pleased to know that you CAN find out your skin age – and all it takes is a working Internet connection, a mirror and just 10 minutes of your time.

Using decades of research on how the skin ages, My Beauty Potential was created by a leading Australian dermatologist to determine your skin age on four different parts of your face – your forehead, your eyes, your mid-face and your lower face.
So how does the test actually work? You’ll be asked to assess your own skin issues (like pigmentation or forehead wrinkles, pores or acne scars) by looking at them in a mirror.

You then pick a corresponding image on the website that matches your skin’s appearance, and rate how much of an issue it is for you. By the end of the test, the tool creates a report (the age of the four different areas of your face as well as report on your biggest skin interests) and puts you in contact with a quality medical skin clinic in the local area, who using the results, can recommend treatments that will make the greatest improvement to your appearance and skin health.

Associate Professor Greg Goodman, who created My Beauty Potential said, “Findings from our study reveal that treatment may make skin look, on average, seven and a half years younger, and from my experience as a dermatologist, it’s the educated clients who get better outcomes.”

Not only is the whole process quite fun and interesting, but it’s also informative, too. I got a few members of the bh team to try out the skin age tool and here’s what they found:

Laura, total skin age: 34

“I’ve never been on anything like this before, so it was really interesting to actually look at my face in such detail and to compare it with the pictures. I think we all tend to be very self-critical when we’re looking in the mirror, but when I looked really closely at the pictures and compared myself to them it put my problem areas in perspective and made me feel much more ‘normal’. It also encouraged me look at areas of ageing I perhaps hadn’t considered before – such as around the temples, forehead and the mouth – which I’ll be paying more attention to in the future. It was a fun way to assess my skin concerns!”

Kym, total skin age: 42

“What’s not to love about this new easy to use beauty tool? My Beauty Potential allows you to self diagnose your anti-ageing skin concerns all in the privacy of your home! All you need to do is fill out a short questionnaire and, once completed, it gives quite specific results about the ages of the different areas of your face and gives you the option to make the changes that can help improve those areas – jump on and try for your self! I was happy with the results.”

Di, total skin age: 48

“I found the My Beauty Potential survey really easy to use and an interesting way to spend 15 minutes. It is not often that I find myself really studying my face in the mirror and having to honestly assess the state of my skin. The different pictures that they offer to assess your skin concerns are really helpful and even though I would have preferred to be on the lower end of the scale for each concern it is hard not be honest when armed with a mirror and comparing to the pictures. I really liked the easy to use sliding tool that shows the different quality to wrinkles when the face is resting and frowning. I was pleased to find that my overall skin age was younger than my actual age. Phew! I would consider following up my skin concerns with the suggested clinic as my skin age is only just younger than my actual age and my main area of concern – my forehead – could possibly do with some help.”

See? Really helpful and informative, right? And it’s also useful to identify your biggest skin issues so that you can make the right beauty decisions in the future.
