How to deal with skin redness

If your skin is like mine and has hard-core mood swings that result in redness and flushing, then you’ll know that trying to calm your skin ain’t easy. And while it’s not socially acceptable to wander around with an ice-cold towel on your face, nothing is more tempting.

The truth is, it’s very difficult to get rid of facial redness completely, but there are many products out there that help to soothe, calm and relieve red skin. So what are you waiting for?! Give these goodies a go…

Cleansers

First things first: when you have red, delicate skin, protecting it should be your number one (skincare) priority. That starts with cleansing. Choose a cleanser that comforts skin and helps to restore its moisture, rather than strip it of its natural oils. Go for products that contain soothing ingredients like chamomile and calendula to calm and relieve skin, all while giving it a thorough cleanse.

Toners

After cleansing, pat your skin dry with a towel (rubbing it will only increase redness). Then, pop a few drops of soothing toner on a cotton pad and smooth it over your face. Toners formulated to calm skin are a perfect addition to your skin care routine as they deeply penetrate skin to calm, treat and relieve it quick-smart.

Moisturisers

Now, onto the most important step: moisturising. Arm yourself with a soothing moisturiser to nourish and protect your skin, and relieve that dry, tight feeling you’re probably all too familiar with. Pick one with calming ingredients like chamomile or rosehip oil to instantly soothe red, blotchy skin for a more even complexion.

Masks

When my skin is feeling red and hot, I love layering it with a cold, creamy mask. Can I suggest you do the same? It’s the perfect way to give your skin a much-needed weekly dose of powerful calming and healing ingredients.  And to give your skin a real treat, keep your mask in the fridge so it’s extra chilled when you apply it. Ah, sweet, sweet relief!

And some treats for your man…

It’s not only us ladies that suffer from redness – it’s likely your man has to deal with it on the daily in the form of razor burn. Ouch! Even if he plays down how irritating it is, pop a razor burn relief cream on the vanity. After he tries it, there’s no doubt he – and his soothed skin – will be thanking you!
