All hail the healing powers of crystal skincare

Holistic skincare is only gaining momentum, and in the age of mindful beauty, the way a product makes you feel is just as important as the way it makes you look. Beauty brands are putting their guru hats on and turning back to age-old ingredients in a bid to enhance and enlighten both your outer beauty and inner strength. Enter crystals, each enriched with their own majestic healing properties and here to save our skin. From stones that help to combat signs of ageing to gems that reduce redness and inflammation, there’s a crystal for every skin type and skin goal.

Whether in crushed powder form, extracted into liquids, or transformed into massage tools, there are many ways crystals are working their way into our worlds, and they’re definitely here to seduce the cynics. As someone who generally equated “energy” with mustering the strength to remove makeup before bed, scepticism has certainly crept into my mind, but the benefits are (crystal) clear. In fact, it’s a common belief that the high frequency of crystals actually helps to drive ingredients towards the cells that need them the most, making sure that the right things get to the right places. And hey, if Miranda Kerr’s a fan, who are we to pass on that kind of glow?

It all boils down to benchmarks, and whether you score your skincare on relaxation or results. If you’re happy with a combo of the two, we’ve found some seriously genius gemstones worthy of a spot in your collection. After all, who wouldn’t want the serenity of moonstone or the soothing properties of jade miraculously imparted into our faces? Give crystals a go – they (literally) rock.

Ageing skin? Try rose quartz.

Salt By Hendrix Rose Quartz Gua Sha Face Sculpting Tool ($24.95, herbivorebotanicals.com)

Rose quartz is all about finding love, and we’re already smitten with this sculpting tool. A device that heals your heart and boosts your youthful glow? Consider us convinced. A Gua Sha sculptor is your anti-ageing ally – when glided gently against the skin it works to relax the tension in your facial muscles that can lead to fine lines, whilst simultaneously stimulating collagen production. Feel free to incorporate your favourite skincare products into the process. Trust us, it can transform your nightly serum application into a spiritual experience.

Dull skin? Try moonstone.

Minenssey Brightening Mask

Moonstone brings calm and peace, so it makes sense that a moonstone mask would deliver ultimate relaxation – after all, we can’t think of anything more peaceful than a good self-care session. This beyond brilliant brightening mask mixes Moonstone extract with Black and White Clay to nourish, balance and restore life into your complexion. Lather it on and leave overnight for skin so luminous you’ll look as if you’re literally lit up by the moon.

Irritated skin? Try amethyst.

Kora Organics by Miranda Kerr Amethyst Luminiser ($34, sephora.com.au)

Amethyst is the all-mighty healer, and this balm is no exception. A moisturiser-highlighter hybrid containing crushed amethyst crystals, this lush luminiser proves spirituality belongs in skincare. The silky texture melts into skin, effectively moisturising and leaving you with a soft-focus lavender glow. With a blend of coconut and rosehip oil, plus Noni Fruit Extract (the ingredient brand founder Miranda Kerr credits with her radiance), it’s also seriously soothing on sensitive or irritated skin.

Puffy skin? Try jade.

DB Cosmetics Jade Facial Roller

Jade’s purpose is to soothe and purify (two things our skin can always use more of). Adding a jade roller into your regime is a great way to boost blood circulation and encourage skin cell rejuvenation, plus help products penetrate deeper into skin. Face rollers are amazing for everyday skin struggles like puffiness and dark under-eye circles so store in the fridge to hit your complexion with an extra cooling kick. Use the ridged side to improve lymphatic drainage, and switch to the smooth side to enhance elasticity.

Dehydrated skin? Try clear quartz.

Dollar Hippy Club The Miracle Oil ($48, dollarhippyclub.com)

Clear quartz is prized for its ability to clear the mind of negativity, and we’re all about products that bring positive vibes. Considered the master of all healing crystals, clear quartz holds the power to further amplify the healing vibrations of its other crystal pals, making it the perfect final addition to your gemstone line-up. Whilst this multipurpose miracle oil doesn’t contain crystals within its formula, it’s actually been blessed with Clear Quartz to enhance the purity and connection in your life. Whether you use it for a general hit of hydration or to soothe skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, it’s bound to work its magic on your skin and your spirit.

  1. Same here, **Belle88**, it's so relaxing to use and I actually do feel the lymphatic drainage when I use it. I've been slacking off on it though. I have sinus problems and feel a difference when I massage under my eyes with it (where the fluid accumulates).
