 Face facts

“For a perfect complexion like Gwen’s, put aside the tinted moisturiser and go for a base that provides medium coverage. If you have oily skin, use a matte foundation. If your skin is more on the dry side, use a hydrating foundation, but then make sure you press it down with a translucent powder. Gwen’s flawless look shows the importance of looking after the skin and spending a little time on foundation, concealer and powder. This is a step not to be rushed!” – Make-up artist Yolanda Lukowski

Hair how-to

“Start by applying a root lift or volumising mousse to freshly washed and dried hair. Then, to achieve height and movement, set your locks in medium sized hot rollers. Once cool, lightly brush the curls out.

“Next, separate the T-section of your hair, pulling back the rest into a tight, classic bun. Back comb the underside of the T-section using a flat bristle brush and then lightly apply a flexible hairspray. Now gently comb this section back into a 1950s quiff, setting it in place near your crown with pins. Then pin the ends of the hair at the sides of the bun in a curl shape. Finish with a setting spray. This style will probably take about 30 minutes to complete.” – Hairdresser Alan Coban
