How to see your skin safely through the silly season
Are you gearing up for one heck of a silly season? Do you have Christmas party invitations coming out of your ears? Don’t freak out, your skin won’t turn on you for consuming a few glasses (or bottles) of celebratory bubbles – and even if it does, you needn’t worry.
We’ve got the ultimate silly season skin rules to ensure you look as fresh and perky as Kate Hudson here, no matter what time you got to bed…
#1: Nourish your skin during the day
Often we forgo giving our skin a proper hit of hydration during the day for fear of moisturiser feeling too ‘heavy’ on our skin. Not only can a rich cream create an oil slick of epic proportions, but it can also cause your make-up to look less-than-perfect. To keep your skin hydrated in the daylight hours (and prevent it from showing the signs of a big night out), swap your regular moisturiser for a nourishing variety that doesn’t feel too heavy. I love Sanctuary Spa Wonder Oil Serum as it has a half oil, half serum formula, so it’s light enough to wear during the day and potent enough to deliver hydrating benefits deep into the layers of the skin, where it’s needed most. I also recommend Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Lotion as it contains ingredients that allow the skin to repair and retain moisture.
#2: Make the most of any shut-eye
Even more so than during the day, it’s crucial to make the most of your make-up-free skin at night as there’s nothing to interfere with your products getting to work. Sanctuary Spa Therapist’s Secret Facial Oil does wonders to thoroughly hydrate skin, thanks to ingredients like sunflower, jojoba and rosehip seed oil, which replenish the skin’s natural oil content. NEUTROGENA® HYDRO BOOST™ Night Concentrate is another excellent choice, as it contains a mix of hyaluronic acid, olive extract, and vitamin-E enriched beads to maximise skin rejuvenation overnight.
#3: Fake perky peepers
Have you ever had someone look at you and say, “gosh, you look tired”? Yeah, me too – and what they’re commenting on, besides the fact that you probably don’t look your best, is that your eyes look weary. Our eyes are super sensitive, and consequently tell the world when we’re sick, tired or severely hungover. Ensure your peepers don’t give you away this silly season by recruiting a team of products that’ll help you look like you got to bed at 9pm. I love Ultraderm Eye Restore Serum as it works to reduce dark circles, puffiness and fine lines around the eyes. Likewise, Pelactiv Rapid Eye and Lip Balm’s instant tightening effect ensures the delicate eye area looks perkier and smoother. Finish your fake-it-til-you-make-it look with an undereye highlighter like Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush-On-Glow BB Highlighter, which uses photo-optic technology to brighten shadows and pearlescent powder to make you look wide awake in a second.
