8 of the best skin boosters for summer time

With summer knocking on our door – hello to bikinis and floral slip dresses – it’s time we started thinking about the skin boosters needed to protect our skin from the harsh climate ahead.

Now that we’ve ditched heavy jackets and the indoors, we’re dealing with much higher UV levels that can wreak havoc on our skin. I personally start freaking out around this time of year. My skin goes red from the heat, sunspots appear, pimples pop and then there’s sunburn. Ouch!

So before summer is well and truly here, get your skin boosters ready to beat the heat. Here are our fave skin care summer-time boosters.

SPF

We all know it’s a must that you smother your skin in an SPF the minute you walk out the door in summer. This Ella Bache Great 50+ Facesaver Active also contains ingredients to moisturise and protect your skin from the dehydrating effects of the sun.

Dark spot treatment

Sadly, dark sun spots can rear their ugly head in summer and end up hanging around longer than we’d like. Which is why you need to add a dark spot corrector like this Kiehl’s Solutions Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution to your summer skin care kit. Containing activated C, this skin booster works to prevent dark spots from appearing and to create a more even skin tone.

Gel moisturiser

With skin feeling more oily due to humidity and higher temps, make a gel-based moisturiser like this Natio Rosewater Hydration Moisture Boost Day Cream-Gel your go-to hydrator. Infused with rosewater, sesame, almond and shea, this one will absorb quickly but also help to calm irritated skin.

Lip balm

Heat can leave our lips feeling dehydrated but the harsh UV rays of summer can do even more damage to them. So don’t forget them when you’re heading out into the sun. Apply a lip balm containing an SPF30+ or more like this QV Face Lip Balm that’s also smoothing and soothing.

Facial mist

It’s the weekend and you’re out and about but the temperature has soared. To avoid a facial meltdown, keep a mist spray like this L’OCCITANE Citrus Verbena Refreshing Mist one in your handbag. Full of summery citrus scents like crushed, lemon leaves, not only will your skin feel cool, but you’ll smell delicious.

Calming serum

For some people acne can get worse in summer. The heat can produce more sebum and the humidity can cause an increase in oil production which can lead to breakouts. If this describes you to a tee, switch your serum to an anti-inflammatory formula like this Rejuvenation Clinics of Australia SKINFIT ABC Restore Skin Repair Serum. It  helps repair the skin barrier, plump the skin and reduce congestion.

Brightening eye cream

Did you know that the sun can cause under eye circles to appear darker? Add an illuminating eye serum  like this Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Brightening Eye Serum to your skin care cabinet to help to improve the appearance of dull skin around the eye area. But make sure it contains a blend of ingredients like vitamin C that helps with uneven skin tone.

Hydrating and calming mask

It’s easy to overexpose your skin to the elements in summer – who doesn’t love spending the whole day lazing about in the sun?! To reinvigorate your complexion when it’s stressed out, apply a mask like this Aveda Intensive Hydrating Masque that contains cooling and soothing properties like aloe, kelp, lavender and rosewater.
