5 minutes with Rebecca Gibney

At 48,Rebecca Gibney has skin that simply glows. It radiates, even. And this is nothing to be sneezed at – skin is known for loosing its luminosity as we age, favouring dullness, dryness and sagging instead, so it’s a pretty mean feat to be flaunting glowing skin in your 40s.

So, how has the former Packed To The Rafter’s star managed to maintain her youthful complexion? We had a chat to the Olay Regenerist ambassador to find out her beauty and health secrets…

What are your top five anti-ageing tips?

#1. “Get eight hours sleep every night. Sleep, sleep and more sleep! Our body repairs itself when we’re asleep and so does our skin.”
#2. “Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluid – but no sugary stuff!”
#3. “Exercise! Nothing makes your skin glow like working up a sweat.”
#4. “A great skin care routine, obviously, and make sure you always remove your make-up. The new Olay Advanced Cleansing System is fantastic for this as it removes your make-up and always lifts away dirt and dead skin cells.”
#5. “Use a moisturiser with an SPF – it is essential in the Australian climate. I use Olay Regenerist Superstructure SPF 30+ every day, without fail.”

What is your before bed skin care ritual?

“I start by making sure every skerrick of make-up is removed using the Olay Regenerist Advanced Cleansing System. It really preps your skin so it’s ready to absorb all the anti-aging goodies you apply next. I then use both the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum and Cream. As you get older, I think it’s imperative to introduce a serum to help give your skin an added boost.”

What’s your must-have beauty product when travelling abroad?

“I love the Olay Regenerist Facial Treatment Mask when I travel. But it’s probably best to do these when you’re off the plane so you don’t look like a mummy in public!”

What’s the best beauty lesson you’ve ever learnt?

“Definitely how to use eyelash curlers. They are my go-to beauty fix to help open up my eyes and make me look awake.”

How many beauty products do you have in your bag right now?

“Six – an eyelash curler, a light translucent press powder from Chantecaille, a light nude lipstick from Chantecaille, a hand cream from L’Occitane, Olay Regenerist Superstructure SPF 30+ Cream, and Burt’s Bees Lip Balm.”

Which ageless celebrities did you aspire to while growing up?

“Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn and Grace Kelly. They were all such refined, elegant women. I was always someone that loved those classic beauties who looked like they didn’t go to too much trouble.”

How have you personally dealt with ageing?

“I have struggled with it in the past, but I’m definitely learning to embrace it more. Dolly Parton said a funny line in Steel Magnolias that always makes me laugh: ‘Time marches on and pretty soon you realise it’s marching all over your face.'”

What is the key to ageing well?

“Doing it joyfully. Do it with optimism, as you will always look better with a smile on your face.”

Ah, she’s not just a pretty face, that Rebecca Gibney – she’s a wise one, too. And I think we can all steal a few snippets of her useful health and beauty advice…
