How to make your makeup look better
We all want our make-up to look better but unfortunately there’s no magical spell or real life Instagram filter to make this happen. Whether you’re dealing with flaky coverage, uneven tone or patchiness, these problems all come down to one thing: the condition of your skin.
If you suffer from dry or sensitive skin, it can affect the way your make-up applies, sits and stays – which can be a real downer on your confidence, especially when you’re doing everything else right!
How does dry and sensitive skin affect make-up?
Dry skin can cause your make-up to do a number of things. Because it’s dehydrated, your skin may absorb your make-up in an effort to seek more moisture, causing it to fade quicker, not last as long or provide much coverage. Your make-up may also fail to adhere to those dry patches, accentuating any flaking and the dryness of your overall complexion. Sensitive skin can also cause the skin to redden, which is harder to cover with make-up, particularly with conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Plus, irritation can lead to itchiness and it can be hard to resist scratching for the sake of saving your make-up.
What can I do to fix this problem?
- Use a green concealer to cover any redness. Green is the opposite colour to red and will therefore neutralise any uneven tones.
- If you have sensitive skin, switch to a hypoallergenic or mineral make-up to help reduce irritation.
- Apply a primer before putting on make-up to enable dry skin to hold onto the product. Be sure to pay attention to extra dry areas like the creases of the nose, mouth and eyes.
