5 things you didn’t know about Estée Lauder’s cult serum

It’s not very often a beauty product transcends skin type, attributes and personal preference to become beloved by all. But when it does, that’s what we call a ‘cult-favourite’.

Fondly known as ANR to those of us who consider this hero serum a staple, Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex is one of the most recognised and recommended skin care products in the world.

When you consider all the new launches and breakout brands from the past few years, the fact this iconic brown bottle has remained on top is wildly impressive. But then again, it’s pretty darn special and there’s a few reasons why…

#1 It first launched in 1982

Long before serums were even a ‘thing’, Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair was born. It completely pioneered the category with the first-ever serum, AND first-ever skin care product to promise skin repair and tackle the effects of environmental damage and ageing.

#2 The formula keeps getting better

Fast forward to today and the best won’t rest. It just keeps getting better. Over its 38 years, the classic skin care favourite has been updated four times, with each launch debuting an unprecendented first in innovative research. In fact, it was the first ever skin care product to use hyaluronic acid.

And now, the most recent breakthrough formula is on shelves  featuring new ChronoluxTM Power Signal Technology. This upgrade accelerates the time needed to repair skin, increases firmness, boosts and maintains hydration, and fights pollution. No small feat and no small amount of research here.

#3 It now has collagen

Collagen naturally occurs in the skin and is what’s responsible for our skin looking so plump and youthful. Only thing is, the older we get the less we produce, and it’s pretty tricky to recreate. But, for the past seven years Estée Lauder scientists researched over 80 micro signaling molecules to identify a specific one that’s essential to the skin’s natural repair and promotes multiple vital anti-ageing pathways. In English? The new formula boosts the skin’s natural collagen production and the production of new skin cells, resulting in a firmer complexion.

#4 You can use it day AND night

It’s a common misconception that Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair should only be used at night. But actually, the formula taps into our skin’s own circadian rhythm, activating different benefits when used at both times of day. It repairs at night, but it protects in the day, so apply it after cleansing both morning and evening for best results.

#5 22 bottles are sold a minute

We told you it was beloved, but not specifically how much. Globally, 22 bottles of the current ANR are sold a minute. And right here on beautyheaven, it’s received over 200 reviews from our members, with an average star rating of 5 out of 5 – this is almost unheard of and equals a whole bunch of satisfied, happy and glowing faces.

  1. Is the addition of collagen the only difference between this and the Complex ii? I’m pretty sure you can use the Complex ii serum day and night as well.

EDIT: I’ve just realised that this ANR Synchronized Multi recovery complex is the upgraded version of the recovery complex ii, which was released in August ’20. Getting myself a trial size to see how this rates…
