Want great skin? Try face mapping

Have you ever wondered what your breakouts, congestion or skin redness is trying to tell you? The truth is that without a thorough examination from a trained professional, you may never know, and as a result, you might be using the wrong skin care products.

Everyone’s skin is different and we all have unique skin concerns, and sometimes these concerns point to other health issues. That’s why Dermalogica offer complimentary Face Mapping consultations to help you to understand and treat your skin for your best complexion yet. Oh and the consultation only takes 10 to 15 minutes, so you can do it in your lunch break or while shopping!

WHAT IS FACE MAPPING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Face Mapping goes beyond a facialist simply looking at your skin – it’s a complete skin analysis. Firstly, the Dermalogica Expert will ask you about your lifestyle, general health issues, exfoliation history, and sun tolerance. After that, they’ll use a technique unique to Dermalogica, whereby they perform a visual examination of the skin, touch the skin, and then ‘read’ the skin using the old tradition of Chinese Facial Diagnosis to find indications of internal organ health.

This is where the ‘mapping’ side of the analysis comes into play. Using the Dermalogica Face Map, the Expert will divide the skin on your face and neck into 14 zones. For each zone, the Expert will detect concerns such as inflammation, breakouts, dilated capillaries, and pigmentation. By touching the skin, they will also be able to pinpoint ‘hot spots’ that could indicate things like stress within the skin, oiliness or dryness, rough skin texture and follicular congestion.

Thanks to Chinese Facial Diagnosis, the Expert will also be able to determine whether the areas of concern and change could be linked to activity within the body, such as the heart, lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys or hormonal changes. For example, breakouts on the neck and the lower jawbone are often a result of hormonal stress, or could relate to health issues with your gums and teeth. The area between your brows is known as the ‘wine and dine’ zone, so breakouts in this area could be linked to an intolerance to foods like dairy, wheat or processed sugars, poor eating habits or over-consumption of alcohol. Put simply, you’ll not only gain an understanding of your skin from the surface, but will also get an insight into how your lifestyle may be affecting it, too.

HOW WILL FACE MAPPING BENEFIT MY SKIN?

During your consultation, the Dermalogica Expert will record their findings, and use that information to assess if and how your skin has changed at your next visit. So basically, the Expert will be able to monitor changes within each zone of your skin. Genius, right?

Once the Expert has completed your Face Mapping consultation, they will recommend Dermalogica products that will most benefit your skin. And we all know that a huge part of the state of our skin comes down to what we put on it!

All in all, Face Mapping is a thorough and effective way to determine exactly what your skin craves to feel and look its very best.
