Remember that Armchair Expert podcast interview with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher in 2021, when the pair divulged their bathing habits?
The conversation kicked off thanks to podcast host, Dax Shepard, who believes that we should be ditching soap in the shower because it’s affecting our skin’s natural oils and drying it out.
“I didn’t have hot water growing up as a child, so I didn’t shower much anyway,” Mila agreed. “But when I had children, I also didn’t wash them every day, I wasn’t that parent that bathed my newborns — ever.”
“Now, here’s the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point,” Ashton added. “I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever. I got a bar of Lever 2000 that delivers every time. Nothing else. I do have a tendency to throw some water on my face after a workout to get all the salts out.”
“I do wash my face twice a day,” Mila went on to say.
However, news of the couple’s lack of love for soap took on a life of it’s own. So much so, that Ashton felt the need to explain that he and his wife do in fact shower regularly.
“There was a comment on a podcast, so long ago… and people are like, ‘They don’t shower.’ I’m like, ‘I shower, I go to the gym, I shower,'” Ashton told People. “It was the craziest thing of all time. We made a comment at one point, and people were like, ‘Does he stink? Does he smell?’.”
“I can confirm my boy showers,” Ashton’s The Beauty co-star Anthony Ramos told the publication.
As for Mila? Well, not only does she shower regularly, she sticks to a pretty strict anti-breakout skin care routine, gets monthly facials, loves a LED mask, and has a go-to makeup look she’s adapted with her makeup artist of 25 years Tracey Levy.
Mila Kunis’ 5-Step Skin Care Routine
As Mila mentioned in that highly publicised Armchair Expert podcast interview, she washes her face twice a day, because she has acne-prone skin.
“I started taking care of my skin religiously, like getting a facial once a month when I was 22 or 23, until then I didn’t. I had horrible skin and I didn’t know why,” Mila told Vogue. “I just always had bad skin.”
After trying Accutane and a lot of different skin treatments, she’s settled into a strict skin care routine, which includes a facial every four weeks.
“I’m not a girl that — I don’t do much — but I do do a facial.”
“You know what I do love at night time? Like an alien red light mask. I love them,” she went on to say. “I’m not sponsored or anything, but the Shark [CryoGlow™] I think is the best one. You can fight me on it, but I think it’s great. It does blue and red, and also has cryo underneath your eyes. Oh, I love it. I think it’s great.”
“I wake up, I brush my teeth, then I’m going to spray my face,” she explained, with a bottle of Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray ($48 from MECCA) in hand.
Next up, Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum ($548 from MECCA): “This guy, I don’t really know what it does, but allegedly it makes your skin plump.”
Then it’s on to her favourite product — Keren Bartov Booster Peel & Glow Serum.
“I break out. I’ve always had really, really bad skin. Always. My whole life. I had big pimples, little pimples, all the pimples. And when I wear this — I think I’m supposed to wear it at night, but I wear it in the morning and night — but this guy prevents me from getting little tiny pimples,” she explained.
If her skin is in need of a little extra attention she’ll layer Keren Bartov’s Advanced Skin Serum over the top too: “It’s a little thick, and so this is [great] when I’m feeling a little dry, which you know, at my age — sometimes you get a little dry.”
Finally, she applies a moisturiser that contains SPF, like Keren Bartov’s Triple Active Cream+ SPF 50, which she says is a non-negotiable in her house.
“My daughter’s 11… she washes her face and she wears sunblock every day, and so that’s the one thing that we do for sure,” Mila expained. “Then at night time, I make sure she washes her face, just because she runs around, and all that stuff.”
“My son — if I can get him to shower — I feel like I’ve won the day,” she joked.

The Makeup Routine Mila Kunis Has Stuck With For 25 Years
“I’ve had the same makeup artist since I was 15, and so, I trust her,” Mila admitted. “She’ll do makeup with no mirror. She’ll just do it, and I fully trust her and she also does my makeup for my movies.”
However, when she has to take matters into her own hands, Mila likes to keep things simple, with a makeup routine that focuses on perfecting her complexion.
First, she preps her makeup, stippling on a base of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk ($124 from Adore Beauty) with a damp makeup sponge.
“I have two different colours. You do a little darker [around the perimeter] and then you do a little lighter [through the centre of the face] — and you know, it it gives some good illusion of like a chisel face.”
To accentuate her iconic hazel eyes, Mila smudges a touch of ILIA Beauty Clean Gel Liner ($45 from MECCA) along her upper and lower lash line.
“It kind of makes you look like you had makeup on the night before, and I like that look, because it makes it feel like it’s a look that you’re not trying [too hard]. You know what I mean? It just kind of accentuates the eyes a little bit.”
“I’m best at doing mascara, a little smudgy eyeliner, and that’s it. My makeup artist can do unbelievable eyeshadow [looks]. The second that I step into the world of eyeshadows, I kind of make myself look like a clown, but I do like mascara. So, I put on some [Lancôme Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara] ($72 from MYER).”
“[Anastasia Beverly Hills Blush Trio] ($57 from Adore Beauty) is what I use for my blush,” she explained, dusting it high on the apples of her cheeks. Followed by Westman Atelier’s Face Trace Contour Stick ($83 from MECCA), which she blends into the hollows of her cheeks with her fingers.
“I shade my nose, because after having children, I think my nose grew and I think my ears grew, and so did my feet. And then I’m like, wait, I want to look like, what do you say? Snatched.”
She usually uses Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel ($45 from Adore Beauty), but she’s not afraid of a more budget friendly option like Wet N Wild Mega Clear Brow & Lash Mascara ($8.57 from iHerb).
“I ran out of Anastasia, and I was like, I’m at Target. I’m going to pick some [brow gel] up, and I picked this guy up.”
“I hated lip liner my whole life. I was like, ‘I don’t want more colour on my lips,’ because I always had bright lips, and then I got older, and the colour left my lips. And now I’m like, bring the colour back to my face,” she joked.
Her go-to? Makeup By Mario’s Ultra Suede™ Sculpting Lip Pencil ($47 from Sephora).
“I was at Sephora with my girlfriend. I’ve never been to Sephora. It’s my first time — this was a year plus ago,” Mila explained. “She was like, ‘this is a good brand’, and I was like, ‘I’ll buy it’.”
“I’m obsessed. I’m obsessed with this colour,” she dished, smudging the edges of her lip liner. “I think everyone should have it.”

Our favourite part of Mila’s routine has to be her grey root touch up trick: “I colour my hair. I’m not the greatest of the upkeep of colouring hair. I can say I don’t have time. I probably could make time, but I choose not to, but I have what I call like a skunk streak where like I have a streak of hair that’s just grey.”
She likes to use an eye shadow or even a permanent marker to touch up her greys — “it doesn’t really matter” — but we promise a product intended for grey coverage like Clairol’s Root Touch Up Root Concealing Powder ($18.99 from Chemist Warehouse) works just as well.

What do you think of Mila’s beauty routine?
Interesting … each to their own.
As you say “each to their own”
I like the skincare routine, not their shower habits
Why do they think we care ?
It sounds a bit haphazard , so yeah – ‘each to their own’
Di I care -NO !~!
All the products she uses are lovely. I like them
Kunis doesn’t mention using a cleanser or makeup remover, which she should be using, especially since she claims to wear sunscreen daily.
Odd, but ok.
I agree
I like her products and look
I love her hair.
Not my choice but who cares -really !!
I think it should be that every like to do..
I love my showers every day and that suits me.
hmmm a bit weird but whatever rocks your boat I guess.
Unless you have a large shower with two shower heads one person always looses out as there is not enought room under one shower head for two??
Weird. You do you.
Hmmm
Who really cares !!!
Since you have commented 5 times on this article then maybe you do care @juju47
I take a body shower everyday and wash my hair every other day
I love my LED mask too
Like her skincare
I remember all the drama over the no showering comment.
I think we all do our own thing. I shower twice a day because i work with special needs children and get dribbled on, etc and its Queensland and its darn hot here.
I can’t go to bed if I haven’t showered.
I know what you mean.
Look at Mila’s hair that hair is getting regular attention!
I’m sick of seeing the same articles pop up.
fair enough
I think a more r3gular routine is probably better.
I think regular is better than just when I feel it
Sounds like a regular person to me, relatable.
sure is
Good on them
Haha, how funny that one comment can grow legs like that.. Love Mila’s routine
That is good news.
very cute
