Member Of The Month: Jupiter

by
member of the month

Did you know that beautyheaven is home to over 145,000 members from all across Australia?

That’s a lot of beauty enthusiasts!

And the more we grow, the more we want to celebrate the people who make this site so great.

So on the first of each month, we’ll be selecting a ‘Member of the month’ to spotlight and show our appreciation.

The first beauty to be bestowed such an honour? Jupiter!

Q&A with bh member Jupiter

Tell us about your username and why you chose it?

My username is ‘Jupiter’, the largest planet in the solar system. It’s a bit of a joke since I’m quite petite, and Jupiter is huge!

What’s the best Trial Team you’ve ever been on?

I would have to say the Remington Proluxe Digital Hairdryer Trial Team. It’s such a well-made hair tool and is sturdy, powerful, flexible in terms of heat/airspeed settings and reduces frizziness. That hairdryer is still going strong even though it’s used all the time!

What does your current evening skin care routine look like?

It’s complicated! I have a 4-day rotation where each night is slightly different, mainly to avoid over-exfoliation and avoid conflicts between active ingredients. For reference, I have combination skin with an oilier T-zone, prone to dehydration.

Here’s the breakdown:

Name three products you’d consider your ‘holy grails’?

  1. CeraVe Foaming Cleanser: Gentle, fragrance-free, doesn’t sting eyes.
  2. Ma:nyo Bifida Biome Complex Ampoule: packed with five types of probiotics, 10 types of hyaluronic acid and copper peptide, great for skin barrier health.
  3. Swisse Manuka Honey Clay Mask: has really good ‘suction’ to draw out excess oil in my pores without drying out my skin.

Do you have a signature scent?

I don’t have just one signature scent, but my nose generally gravitates towards fresh fragrances that involve light florals or citrus notes as they seem to spark joy in me. I’m currently enjoying Kenzo Flower ($138 for 50ml at Myer).

What’s the best tip you’ve learnt from the bh team or another member?

When I was very new to the site, I met lovely fefe at a bh event at the head office while we were chatting and waiting in the reception area. She told me about discovery bags that were announced in the forums. I started to pay more attention to what happened in the forums and have enjoyed the friendly and helpful community discussions ever since. And as a bonus, I did get a discovery bag in 2020!

What’s a product you always find yourself recommending to others?

If I had to pick just one, facial sunscreen is something that everyone should be using! Cancer Council Face Day Wear Moisturiser Matte SPF 50+ ($13.49 at Chemist Warehouse) is great for daily wear and is easily available. (Bonus: Aldi’s once a year special buy Ombra Daily Defence Light Feel Sunscreen is a dupe – their ingredients lists are identical on the TGA website).

Do you have a go-to makeup look?

I tend to go for light makeup as strong makeup actually overwhelms my small facial features. I use BB creams or light-to-medium coverage foundations, plus concealer and powder for the face. I’m fortunate in that I seem to be able to get away with most eyeshadow shades as long as they are on the soft side, so I usually match my eyeshadow to the colour of my outfit, finishing my eye makeup with eyeliner and mascara. I complete the look with either warm or cool blush, lip liner and lipstick, depending on the eyeshadow shade.

Who inspires you when it comes to beauty?

I’m in my 40s, and I’ve been paying a lot more attention to science-based, anti-ageing skin care, following people like Dr. Sam Bunting the dermatologist and Michelle from Lab Muffin Beauty Science. I find it inspiring when I see women above 40 with healthy skin, flattering hairstyles or makeup – they aren’t wrinkle-free, but they have looked after themselves and have that healthy glow and confident presence about them.

If you had unlimited Rewards Rooms points and every beauty product imaginable was available, what would you buy?

Foreo BEAR! ($395 at Adore Beauty) I don’t own a microcurrent device yet. There is some science behind it in terms of the ‘tightening’ effects on the face, as it bulks up the facial muscle underneath. I’m at the age where I’m noticing a loss of firmness around the jawline, so I’m very keen to try one out.

If you could go back and teach your younger self one thing about beauty, what would it be?

I would advise on learning about active ingredients early. I think my 20s self could have benefited from starting salicylic acid, niacinamide and antioxidants early.

What insights do you find most helpful from others when reading reviews?

Since everyone has different skin types, skin tones, hair types and hair colours, I find it helpful when reviewers include this information about themselves. I can then have a better idea of whether a product would suit me or someone I know. It’s also helpful if they mention similar products they’ve used before and how the current product compares.

Have you tried any of Jupiter’s must-have products?

    • Thanks Bianca. Glad you like the Cerave moisturising lotion too 🙂 I rely on serums for active ingredients and the Cerave lotion is just right to seal it all in. No need for expensive moisturisers.

  1. Love getting to know our members more and learning about their favourite products and insights in these spotlight features. I love the idea and look forward to reading more about other members in the future.

And congrats to Jupiter for being the first feature in the revamped site.

  2. What a fabulous article! Congratulations Jupiter! I use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser as well! I follow Sam Bunting, Michelle @LabMuffin, Muneeb Shah and LJ Maxfield, D/r Dray, Sarah Tonks and Davin Lim! They are such founts of knowledge! Thanks for sharing your routine with us!

  3. You must be over the moon Jupiter! Sorry Jupiter I just couldn’t help myself there! 😀 Congratulations again btw! Great article and I loved reading it – I love this idea of finding out more in depth about our members individually like this. xoxo

  4. Great article! It’s interesting to read about Jupiter’s routine – I love this new spotlight on members, Bh!

I like colourful eyeshadow & usually coordinate it with my outfit, too.

  5. Whoops, I didn’t realise this was already published 😛 Thank you so much BeautyHeaven for the privilege, it was such a surprise when I got the email about this. The lovely ladies also sent me a beautifully handwritten card and a bag of goodies, I was very touched.

And thank you so much for all the kind comments, everyone! I look forward to hearing from future members of the month!

A recent update from what I wrote above is that I purchased a Foreo bear about 3-4 weeks ago. I’ll share my thoughts in the forums in the coming weeks.

  6. Thanks for all the congratulatory messages 🙂 I decided against replying to every single comment as it would just clog up the comments section.

I’m in agreement with the many comments here that the member of the month is a great idea from the BeautyHeaven team. We can look forward to the next installment!

    • Yes, the discovery bags are great. I discovered the Hamilton face sunscreen which is one of my favourites. The formula is similar to Cancer Council Face Matte, but for simplicity’s sake I mentioned Cancer Council because of its wide availability (pharmacies, supermarkets, amazon etc)
