A celebrity beauty routine we can actually afford is one of our very favourite things.
In fact, something that helpful is perhaps only to be topped by a gem of advice that reframes the way we appreciate our skin altogether – especially when we’re dealing with the ageing process.
Well, Mariska Hargitay has gifted us both (see, we knew we loved her). Here’s Mariska’s advice for leaning into visible signs of ageing whilst still taking care of your skin as effectively and practically as possible…
Mariska Hargitay Skin Care
For Mariska, it’s a ‘stick to the basics’ approach that works best. “Self-care, to me, is about having good skin”, Mariska shared in a chat with The Zoe Report. “We all know the basics we should be focusing on. We know your skin can change when we don’t hydrate, when we don’t drink water, and when we don’t sleep.”
Mariska actually admits that she notices the shift when she steers clear of sugary foods, too. “For me, the sugar thing was really powerful. When I eat sugar, it changes the texture of my skin,” she explained. “So to know how to treat our skin from the inside and then have this extra help — that’s the perfect combo, right?”
Mariska appreciates a good bargain, as long as the products are as reliable as the price. She names Cetaphil as her affordable go-to. “It’s a brand that I’ve always trusted and a brand that I’ve loved since I was a little girl. I think everyone does,” Mariska explained. “Everything is science-backed and [based] on new technology and new science. Those are sexy words in skin care.”
Unfortunately (story of our lives here in Australia), the exact formula Mariska is loving right now hasn’t launched quite yet. But you can get your hands on another one of their hydrating options in the meantime: the Cetaphil Optimal Hydration Healthy Glow Daily Cream ($29.99 at Adore Beauty). And we’ll be sure to let you know once her newbie hits local shelves.

Mariska Hargitay On The Ageing Process
Mariska has a refreshing attitude toward the ageing process, too. Put simply, she enjoys using quality skin care but she doesn’t let any natural physical changes affect her wellbeing.
“Listen, we get older and things change. So we take a little bit better care, right? For me personally, I was blessed because I didn’t think about it. I was like, ‘Oh, my skin’s fine. I’m not worried about it.’ Now, my focus is taking care of everything from the inside,” she told The Zoe Report.
“I laugh about it. When things start to sag and fall and break, I go, ‘How about this?’,” she joked, pulling her cheeks downward with her fingers. Hey, perspective is key!
“I lean in. Listen, this is the thing: Nobody can get around it. It’s part of ageing, so why not enjoy it, embrace it, and help ourselves in the ways that we can?”
That’s where her trusty ‘magic potion’ tip comes in. “Everybody knows that obviously hydrating our skin is the magic potion. Drinking water is the magic potion,” she noted. “And now, Cetaphil has gifted us with science and new technology that says ‘Let me help you out here a little bit with your old tired surface cells.’”
Help accepted, thank you!
Do you agree with Mariska’s take? Do you try and hydrate from the outside in and inside out too?
What I eat and how I take care of myself has a massive impact on my skincare. That’s why I try to eat healthy, exercise and get lots of sleep
I think I agree with you, eat rubbish and your skin looks rubbish??
Totally agree, I would add sleep too , a good sleep always does wonders for the skin.
She looks happy with a big smile.
I love her attitude! Good onya, Mariska!
I drink buckets of water every day.
I’ve only tried the Cetaphil body lotion. I’ll put this on my list.
I find it sooo hard to keep away from sugar.
Love Mariska! You can eat and exercise your way to glowing skin!
She seems really sensible overall. And yes, I drink water as well as using moisturiser.
She looks great. I agree with her approach to skin care.
Yes a good balance between diet and good skincare
I have started drinking a lot more water regularly as I got older but it’s far from some magic potion. Bare minimum.
i hope we get it soon
Ive always been a big water drinker.
I do think you just need to be intune with your skin. There is no point using the same products for your 40 year old skin that you used when you were 18.
My skin suffers if I don’t get a good nights sleep, our overall health is important and their is only so much topical skincare can do.
I agree with her.
Lots of hydration inside and out plus a good night’s sleep every night does wonders.
You are right, one needs plenty of water every day and if possible a good nights sleep
Ah yes the joys of trying to source skin care that hasn’t been launched here
I drink water a lot more these days. It has become my main drink. It is also the first thing I do in the morning to start my day , I have a huge glass of room temperature water.
I also drink mostly water but not nearly enough. Should change that.
Water is the best thing for your skin. Drink lots of it!
Wonder when Australia will get it
