Ingredient spotlight: Pitera
Hailed as the miracle-working ingredient that’s able to minimise fine lines and wrinkles, control oil production, hydrate skin, brighten complexions and smooth uneven skin, Pitera sure had very humble beginnings. It now forms the basis of the product formulations for multi-million dollar global beauty brand, SK-II.
Here are a few facts about the ingredient that we thought you’d be interested to know…
It all began with a chance observation in a humble sake brewery in Japan, where scientists noticed the workers had wrinkled faces but youthful looking hands. Years of in-depth research later and Pitera™ - the ‘secret key’ to the workers vitality – was discovered.
Pitera™ is naturally derived from a delicate fermentation process of a unique yeast strain, in tightly controlled conditions at SK-II’s laboratories in Japan.
The miracle behind Pitera™ is that it works to address specific skin problems, helping to moderate the natural function of the skin. For example, it can balance sebum production around the nose, while simultaneously hydrating dry areas on the face. This is the secret that makes it effective for common skin concerns across all ages.
Sourced from only one place in the world, Pitera™ is still produced today by the same process as it was more than 25 years ago.
The powerful ingredient was used to create the very first bottle of SK-II’s hero product, SK-II Facial Treatment Essence in 1980. ”¨”¨Referred to as ‘miracle water’ by SK-II users around the world, Facial Treatment Essence was the first and only product available when SK-II launched in Japan more than 25 years ago.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence contains over 90 percent of the unique ingredient Pitera™ as well as other vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are naturally found in the skin.
