9 cult Australian skin care brands to try ASAP

As Australians, we are known for a laid back approach to fashion and beauty.

And while a dip in the ocean is definitely the trick to nailing beachy waves, when it comes to skin care it is often our powerful natural ingredients and ‘keep it simple’ mentality that makes our country a go-to for effective products. Plus, with the likes of Miranda Kerr, Margot Robbie and newly crowned Aussie VS model Alannah Walton, as walking advertisements for Australia, it’s not hard to see why people are going crazy for Aussie skin care.

We’ve rounded up the cult-Australian skin care brands that are known and loved all over the world.

Frank Body

Most well-known for the iconic Original Coffee Scrub (and their cheeky social media account that has racked up almost 700,000 followers), Frank Body is the definition of ‘keeping it simple’. With coffee as the hero ingredient, plus only natural and naturally derived additions, the brand has gone gangbusters overseas. bh loves: Frank Body Glow Mask, as well as the new ‘Anti’ range, featuring aloe and rose water, as well as coffee seed extract to calm angry skin (find it at mecca.com.au)

Go-To

Brainchild of Australian beauty editor and author, Zoe Foster-Blake; Go-To is a beauty brand committed to making skin care ‘uncomplicated’.  With only 11 products, all natural ingredients and a cruelty free tagline, Go-To is a skin care brand that also works (very well – you can quote me on that). And, if we didn’t love the brand enough already, Foster-Blake’s men’s vertical Bro-To, will have all your husband/dad/brother presents covered forever…you can thank us (and Zoe) later. bh loves: Go-To Transformazing Sheet Masks and Face Hero Face Oil (find it at gotoskincare.com.au)

Lanolips

Australian owned and based in Sydney, Lanolips 101 Ointment is an Aussie icon in it’s own right. Initially developed as an all-over, use-me-anywhere kind of product, made from the lanolin in wool (which mimics human oils) Lano now has a range of lips, hands and all-over products. Available everywhere from Priceline to Sephora to Net-A-Porter. bh loves: Newly launched, Lanolips Rose Gold 101 Ointment  doubles as a lip balm and a lip and cheek tint (find it at sephora.com.au)

Sukin

With priorities including being vegan, cruelty free, carbon neutral and with recyclable packaging, Sukin is a leader in the natural beauty game. The brand also caters for a huge array of skin concerns, with products targeting everything from anti-ageing to blemish control with cold-pressed ingredients and Australian essential oils. bh loves: Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner (which is also loved by Emma Watson).

Synergie Skin

Formulated by cosmetic chemist Terri Vinson, Synergie is an Aussie skin care brand developed specifically to help combat and protect against the harsh environmental aggressors in Australia, such as high levels of UV. Combining the best of science and natural, Vinson’s luxe skin care brand is quickly rising to cult status due to it’s uber effective (and seriously beautiful) formulas. PS. the brand also makes divine makeup with SPF and skin-loving ingredients. bh loves: Synergie Skin Super Serum.

Rationale

If you haven’t heard of Rationale yet, you may have been living under a rock. Created by Dr. Richard Parker, Rationale is loved by models, A-listers and beauty editors alike. Famous for it’s medical skin consultation process, including UV imaging, the brand is also known for it’s essential six regimen. Made up of a cleanser, three serums, a day cream and night cream, this regimen works to repair and minimise future solar damage. While the products work best when used together, bh loves: Rationale Beautiful Skin Superfluid SPF50 (which comes in three shades for different skin types) (head to rationale.com.au to find a clinic close to you).

Jurlique

Known for powerful Australian botanicals, farmed in the South Australian Hills, Jurlique is a small family company turned cult-Australian skin care brand. Plus, with recent reformulations and new natural ingredients the brand has re-launched the Herbal Recovery Signature Range, of which our members rated the serum five out of five stars (meaning, it definitely lives up to the hype). bh loves: Jurlique Herbal Recovery Signature Serum.

Ultraceuticals

Falling into the cosmeceutical category more so than the natural one, Ultraceuticals is an iconic Australian brand in it’s own right. Always at the forefront of research and development and known for it’s focus on highly active ingredients, Ultraceuticals creates both cosmeceutical grade and professional in-clinic products. Another thing we love above the brand is its commitment to being 100% cruelty free. bh loves: Ultraceuticals Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum.

Salt by Hendrix

Organic, vegan and very Instagrammable are all things we love from an Aussie skin care brand, and Salt by Hendrix ticks all these boxes.  Known for highly effective natural ingredients such as Kakadu Plum and Rosehip Oil, as well as gorgeous luxe packaging, Salt by Hendrix is fast becoming the name to know in skin care. bh loves: Salt by Hendrix Eye Babe Eye Oil Treatment (find it at saltbyhendrix.com.au).
