Why you need to swap your lip balm for lip oil

By now you’re probably up to speed with the benefits of face oil, but now an extra luscious oil has burst onto the scene – and it’s formulated especially for your lips.
Not only does the consistency of lip oil mean sticky lips are a thing of the past (simply glide it on and you’re done), they also condition your lips which, unlike the rest of your skin, don’t have oil glands to keep them moisturised.
Some of them are even tinted (which is amazing technology in itself, considering colour tint and oil are known to repel each other).
At the moment only a select few have hit Aussie shores, but we predict we’ll see many more in the coming months. Here are two you can snap up right away:
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil
Ingredients: hazelnut, mirabelle and organic jojoba oil
Benefits: large doe applicator for quick and easy application, has a slightly sweet, honey taste
Perfect for: a light, natural look
Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Oil
Ingredients: jojoba, macadamia and coconut oil
Benefits: infused with colour (there are eight to choose from), adapts to complement your own lip tone as it’s applied
Perfect for: enhancing natural lip shade
When to use lip oil
To maximize the benefits of your lip oil, it’s a good idea to exfoliate your lips first. This way you’ll remove any flakiness and ensure the smooth skin underneath is prepped to soak up the nourishing oil treatment.
Another great time to apply lip oil is before bed. The product will work wonders as it sinks in overnight, ensuring you wake up with an incredibly soft pout. Just make sure you opt for a non-tinted oil to avoid staining your pillow!
Can I use face oil on my lips?
Want to use your face oil up before you splurge on a lip oil? Many face oils are also suitable for use on the lip area. Chia seed oil is a particularly good lip plumper, as it’s packed with moisturising omega 3 fatty acids. Try smoothing on a thin layer of Sukin Super Greens - Nourishing Chia Seed Oil+ or Goodness Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil for an extra-nourishing alternative to a lip balm or ointment.
And one more thing
If you have acne-prone skin and haven’t used an oil product on your face before, take care to apply your oil within your lip line. This way, the product will be concentrated on your lips (rather than the pores around your mouth, which could get clogged).

I would like to try lip oil, but worry that it would not be convenient being a liquid??

When using natural based skincare I always bring it all over (eyes, lips too, neck, chest...not just face). Not just oils. Oh and peptide eye serum I have now...great for lips too. As it is not chemical filler infused and no perfume. These things do not have to be "lip specific". And when they are I avoid (as stuff comes into the mouth, yuck...usually tasting incredibly bitter eeeek)

I'm always really scared to use oils on my face, as i'm worried that my skin will break out. It seems to have such good benefits though, anyone know an alternative?

I'm a recent devotee of the Clarins Lip Comfort oils. They smell delicious, feel so very nourishing, and have a great sheer glossy colour; perfect for summer.

Australis has 6 lip oils, 3 in their limited edition K-Pop range and 3 in their standard collection, and they are wonderful.

Not sure why but if I apply lip oil, I end up getting a painful boil right on the upper or lower lip line. I recently tried rodan and fields lip serum and it did wonders, definitely sticking to that

I see Western brands finally catching up. Asian brand lip oils have been around for a while and they are still superior in my mind. Also, price point is more affordable.

While I don't think I'd buy an oil specifically made for lips, I've been using my regular face oil in my lip area. It's been absolutely amazing! I'd definitely recommend trying It!

I don't really think a lip oil is necessary

None of my trusty lip products worked during the harsh Melbourne winter/spring transition, but after I started using my face oil on my lips- I use The Ordinary Moroccan Argan oil,and all the cracks and lines on my lips were revived in 3 days. I am not keen in buying another specific oil product just for my lips as the face oil works well!

This is a thing? I need it in my life immediately. I love face oils and they have made a huge difference to my dry skin, here's hoping lip oils are equally as excellent!

Huh, maybe rather than getting yet another skincare product, the lip oil, i can just use my facial oil on my lips and see how i like it!

I've never thought of using an oil on my lips. I've always used a lip balm to keep them moist. As I am currently using Goodness Chia Seed Oil on my face, I try it on my lips at night.

I had no idea lips couldn't moisturise themselves like the rest of your skin!

I'm wondering whether you can use organic makeup pigments with your facial oils and use them on your lips... where's IndieAna when you need her!!!
