Les Miserables premiere: leading ladies glam up

I don’t know about you, but I am so excited to see the new Les Miserables flick when it hits cinemas on the December 26 this year. Not only does the movie feature an all-star cast (think Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Anne Hathaway) – it also brings some of the world’s most-loved songs to life in a modern version of the musical that is sure to appeal to all ages.

Did you know that Les Miserables is the very flick that called for Anne Hathaway to chop off her long lengths? Yep – we even heard whispers that they hired a professional hairdresser to play the character that cuts it all off. So when you see her hair being chopped on screen – that was the moment it actually happened! Which means they had just one take to get it right!

What made me even more excited was the watching the glamour of the New York premiere leading up to the flick’s release. Luckily, neither Amanda Seyfried or Anne Hathaway let me down in the style and beauty stakes – so I’m going to show how to achieve both totally different, utterly glamorous looks.

GET AMANDA’S LOOK:
Channelling a Grecian goddess, Seyfried stepped out with seriously hot hair, and eyes so bold she’d be giving Cleopatra a run for her money. Discover how you can copy it below…

Skin:
To mimic Amanda’s velvety complexion, choose a light foundation that will provide a radiant, airbrushed finish. We like Mirenesse Invisible Fill Makeup Airbrush Pore & Line Filling Mattifier SPF10 as it disguises big pores and leaves your skin looking and feeling velvety smooth.

Eyes:
To achieve this bold take on the regular smoky eye, choose a chubby crayon-style eyeliner and take it out in a triangle from the middle of your top and bottom lash line until you reach a point in line with the end of your eyebrow. It should be a ‘>’ shape. Then fill in the shape with your crayon (we love Revlon Luxurious Colour™ Smoky Crayon in Black Steel for this look) and DO NOT smudge or blend. You can get an idea of exactly how to create a sharp smoky eye, here…

Hair:
It’s no secret we love a braid here at bh HQ, but not many of us have enough hair to create a big plait like the one Amanda is sporting. To get the look, watch our video on how to create an XL bun using Scunci’s Bun Maker – and then grab your Headlines Hairpieces Ponytail, plait it, clip it to the hair underneath your bun and wrap it around before bobby pinning in place.

GET ANNE’S LOOK:
Sleek and chic, this Catwoman-style make-up is the perfect vampy look for an evening out. Focus on your best features to ace this one.

Eyes:
For eyes that sparkle like Anne’s, choose a shimmery shadow like Bloom Liquid Eye Shadow in the metallic Neptune hue. Next, get a fluttery stare by using Manicare Glameyes Fashion Lashes – Jessica. They’re super-easy to apply, and provide a natural, yet show-stopping result.

Lips:
Woah, check out that punchy red lip! It kind of hits you at full speed, doesn’t it? That’s what it should do! To get the look, choose a red that’s a little darker than you’d normally go for and prep your pout for application by applying a matching lip pencil and filling in your lips. Then coat your smackers with two generous layers of lippy. Remember to blot in between coats! Try: Mavala Mavalip Lipstick in Bermuda.

Hair:
Whether you’re a long-locked lass or short and chic like Anne, you can achieve sleek side-swept pieces by parting your hair deep to one side and then blow-drying the fringe pieces in the opposite direction from where you want it to sit. This means it will lie perfectly when you brush it to your chosen side. Finish by using a little hair gel that has been warmed in your fingertips to manoeuvre and set your strands into place. We like VO5® Wet Look Styling Gel.

Which look do you like best? How would you suggest Anne and Amanda alter their looks for next time?
