Sought after by the likes of Kylie Minogue and Madonna, Malvina has revealed many of her affordable beauty tricks over her 30+ year career.

Whether it’s using Vaseline to remove stubborn mascara and lipstick, or drinking more water because (in her words)  “hydration is the new Botox”, she has a wealth of skin care knowledge to share.

And recently, when speaking to High50, Malvina revealed her top beauty tip for women in their 50s. And this one is dedicated to an unsung hero – our hands.

Particularly in women, our hands are the first body part to show visible signs of ageing. According to Malvina “your hands often give away your age far more than your face does”. This can be attributed to frequent sun exposure, as our hands are often overlooked when it comes to a daily SPF or skin care regime.

While an effective preventative measure is to use SPF and keep our mitts out of the sun where possible, Malvina gives us a tip for the already present marks. “Don’t just use concealer under your eyes,” she says. Bring it down to the hands to “cover up any age spots or veins” and leave yourself with the same youthful-looking glow on your hands as your face. Her concealer of choice? Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat.

  1. My hands are suffering these days with so much hand washing and use of santiser coupled with the dry winter weather. No sooner do I apply hand cream when something comes up and I have to wash my hands again 🙁

  2. No way. Makeup on hands? No for me. I use skincare that my face skin does not like too much on hands, but only overnight. As during the day , my hands are always busy and need to be clean of all product. Yes to hydration: heaps of raw fresh seasonal fruits daily make huge difference to plump skin

  3. I’m constantly applying handcream to my hands to keep them soft and hydrated, but I can’t say that I’d apply concealer. It would be messy and would need constant reapplying.

  4. Interesting article. My hands got to cracking point with alcohol protection. I read the back of moogoo natural smoothing msm moisturizer and loved it so much I purchased another. I also purchased there zinc sunscreen which is clear on the skin. So happy I discovered this all natural brand. We do need to look after our hands.

  5. Hand cream + cuticle oil are the big things for me, especially more so now that I’m washing or sanitising my hands more. I try & remember to put sunscreen on my backs of my hands, but more often than not I forget. I can already see signs of ageing on my hands unfortunately, so I know I’m going to look older than I am. :o(

  6. Yes my hands are showing wear and tear and although I do use a hand cream and apply sunscreen on my hands. I’m a buzy person so I couldnt imagine using make up on my hands.

I can remember my grandmother who passed away whenI was 25 wearing gloves even when she hung out the washing as a suntan was considered a big NO to her and she had amazing skin on her face and hands!

  7. I do agree that hands can be one of the most noticeable areas to show ageing but I haven’t ever thought to put concealer on them. My hands tend to be dry and I do try and keep the hand cream up to them. I’m particularly conscious of using one with SPF in it. I like the Skin Physics and the Dr LeWinns.
